Itinerary
Trip PlanExpand all

Our airport representative will be waiting for you at the exit gate of Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu and will held a board that says Himalayan Partner Treks. Finally, there will be a private vehicle for you to take you to your accommodation in Kathmandu. We will be waiting for you at our office if you want to see us for a pre-trip meeting and learn about the 19 Days Island Peak Climbing with EBC Trek Itinerary.

Following breakfast, we will complete an adventurous 45-minute flight to Lukla which is the starting point of EBC Trek with Island Peak Climbing. At the airport, the porter and the guide will be officially introduced. First, we begin to hike to reach Phakding following the Dudh Kosi Valley crossing a few locally made suspension bridges. The path has peak views, a green valley, colorful prayer flags, and stacks of Mani stones. The main thing you need to bear in mind is to do things slowly as you will have to get used to the reduced air pressure gradually. In one hour of walk you will find Phakding and will stay there at a Sherpa teahouse.

The next morning after having a hearty breakfast we will follow the same route as the first day that is walking along the bank of Dudh Koshi River. The ride will be comfortable and fun too as there are five hanging suspension bridges made of colorful prayer flags along the way.

In a few minutes, we will reach the gates of Sagarmatha National Park, which is a World Heritage site. Upon presenting our permits, we will proceed through the thick forest and get our first sight of Mt. Everest and other peaks.

From there we will continue climbing up till we reach Namche Bazaar. The final part of the daily hike starts from the Tenzing Hillary Suspension Bridge and is slightly ascending. This last push will take us to Namche Bazaar, a beautiful hill town where life is buzzing. That is where we will have a great evening.

Namche Bazaar is the next rest stop for our Everest Base Camp and Island Peak Climbing expedition and it is a mandatory acclimatization day for every Everest Region trek. This day is very important for acclimatization to high altitude and avoiding altitude sickness.

Nevertheless, doing nothing may lead to boredom in case the day seems long. In order to do so we will leave the relative comfort of Namche Bazaar and go on a hike. One of the alternatives is to travel to the headquarters of Sagarmatha National Park.

There are also museums dedicated to Mount Everest or one can go to Everest View Hotel. Another option is a visit to the villages of Khumjung or Khunde. Our intention is to try and tour as many of these spots as we can. We will then come back to our teahouse for our second night at Namche Bazaar after our day tour. Dinner can be followed by a walk through the narrow streets of Namche Bazaar for those who are not tired.

Following the morning breakfast, we will leave Namche and proceed towards Tengboche. The first part of the ascent out of town is not steep. After some time, we will be walking on an even hiking path at the edge of the valley. While trekking we will be welcomed by the magnificent views of Nuptse, Ama Dablam, Everest and others.

On the way, we will have to go through several villages. From Sansa it gradually goes down to Phunki Thanga where the trail passes through mostly forest areas. Next we will cross another suspension bridge across the Dudh Koshi River. The next stretch is a two-hour climb to Tengboche. After arrival, we will see the famous Tengboche Monastery and the view of the mountains. We shall stop over at a teahouse and take a break.

On the sixth day, we proceed to Dingboche at 4410 meters above sea level after a warm breakfast in Tengboche. First, we go down to Debouche and cross another suspension bridge over the Imja Khola and then climb up among thousands of Mani stones to Pangboche. It is an uphill climb to Dingboche, a traditional Sherpa village with stunning views of Lhotse, Island Peak, and Ama Dablam.

The trek to Lobuche will be an interesting experience as spectacular views of mountains can be seen almost throughout the trail. The trail runs through a wide valley and climbs slightly near a ridge with a shrine on top. After that, you will need to cross a glacial moraine and go past a few small lodges.

The views of snow capped peaks also become increasingly beautiful the higher you go especially when you near Thukla. During the trip, you will see statues of those climbers who died trying to conquer these mountains. The hike to Lobuche is really pleasant.

The day is very important for our Everest Base Camp tour, however, it will be tiresome and challenging. We will rise very early in the morning, have a very quick meal and then head out for the day. Our route will pass along Khumbu Glacier; the gradient of terminal moraines will be increasing while the glacier and magnificent mountains will be visible.

The place of our lunch is Gorak Shep – the last teahouse of Everest Base Camp Trek. After lunch we will start our trek to Everest base camp which is a round trip of approx. 3 hours.

We will then pass through some rough terrains until we reach the Everest Base Camp where we will spend time admiring the view and taking pictures. We will then come back and have our dinner at Gorak Shep where we will also spend the night.

We will also hike to Kala Patthar to see the sunrise early in the morning. Kala Patthar is the world's highest webcam situated at an altitude of 5544 meters from where one can get a spectacular view of the sunrise over the Mt. Everest and other surrounding peaks. We will climb up , admire the splendid panorama from Kala Patthar and come back to Gorak Shep. The view from all sides is spectacular – a true panorama.

Next morning after having our breakfast we will start our journey from Gorak Shep to Lobuche. This part of the trek is less challenging as it is mostly descending. We will be able to reach Lobuche in time and get a good night’s rest.

The first part of our trek is complete and now we turn to Island Peak. The initial phase of the trek will be the ascent to Chukkung – the first stage will be a difficult walk from Dingboche. On the way we shall stop over at several Typical mountain villages. This will take about 3-4 hours with enough time to admire the natural beauty around us.

After arriving in Chukkung we will have a fantastic view of Nuptse, Ama Dablam, etc. After a night of rest in Chukkung we will be again prepared for the next part of the journey.

Today, we will hike to Island Peak Camp after early morning breakfast in Chhukung. Our route includes ascending the slope and walking through the main valley. On the way we will have opportunities to admire beautiful waterfalls and glacier streams. We will also cross Lhotse’s glacier moraine and view Imja Khola Glacier.

We will then slowly ascend till we reach Island Peak Base Camp at 5,200 m. When we arrive there, we shall then do some climbing exercises before climbing Island Peak the next day.

We have to begin early to get to the top by noon to escape windy conditions. First, we will climb a high hill and go across some rocks. The road will eventually get narrower, steeper, and with rough terrain. Slowly, we will follow the ridge to an exposed boulder and then climb to the summit of a glacier.

In some places using fixed ropes and ladders we are guided to the top of Island Peak. Now there are two crevasses just below the summit which we will have to traverse before reaching the top. After we reach the summit of the Island peak, we will be able to enjoy spectacular views of the surrounding mountains and the surrounding landscapes.

Later we will descend slowly to Island Peak Base Camp and then to Chhukung. It is also possible to reach Chhukung directly from the summit for an overnight stay.

Today, we will head down to Tengboche Village which is located in the Sagarmatha National Park – a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Here amongst the splendor lies the Tengboche monastery, one of the largest monasteries in the Everest region. Situated within its premises, one is welcomed by stunning views of the Himalayan mountain ranges with towering giants such as Mount Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, and Thamserku in the background.

The trek from Tengboche to Namche Bazaar takes us through a trail that goes through dense forests that are home to numerous wildlife species such as the pheasant, musk deer, Himalayan tahr, and snow leopards. While driving up such steep landscapes with prayer flags and chortens as decorations, the view outside the window becomes nothing short of spectacular.

On the way back it is possible to take numerous pictures of the Everest peak and the wild reverse side of Lhotse. On arrival at Namche Bazaar, we shall check in our respective lodges for rest.

Today is the day to return from Namche Bazaar to Lukla. We will have breakfast and enjoy the atmosphere of this town and then we will move on through the downhill trail. Our course will then take us from Namche Bazaar to the famous Hillary Suspension Bridge.

The next day we will follow the peaceful river Dudh Koshi and return to Lukla which we had visited on day one and two. Last but not least, we’ll land at Lukla, thus concluding the Everest Base Camp with Island Peak Climbing adventure. A perfect time to pause and take a moment to appreciate it before getting some rest.

After completing your journey, it is time to return home. From Lukla your final destination will be either Manthali or Kathmandu depending on the trekking season. For treks that take place in March, April, May, September, October, and November, you will have to fly to Manthali and then be driven to Kathmandu. But from December to January February June July or August your journey will be straight from Lukla to Kathmandu.

One can also choose another route by skipping Lukla-Manthali-Kathmandu completely. If you form a group of five and charter a helicopter, the extra cost per person works out to about 550 USD. All being well, you will return to Kathmandu on the fifteenth day.

Today, you will bid farewell to us and our team who helped you guide through the Everest Base Camp and Island Peak. Our agents will escort you to Tribhuvan International Airport, from where you will onboard a flight to your home country or you can travel to next city of Nepal we do provide you Transport.

Essential Information

When Is the Best Time To Do EBC Trek With Island Peak?

The best time to go for the EBC Trek with Island Peak Climbing might differ from one person to another. As the choice and preferences of people doing this trek and peak climbing varies, the ideal choice of time also varies. But if you see the favorable weather conditions and climate, Spring and Autumn seasons are considered the best among all other seasons. Here’s why:

Spring Season (March to May)

Spring is the best season for EBC Trek and Island Peak Climbing. The weather conditions are very favorable with moderate temperatures and low levels of precipitation.

The trekking experience is also made better during this season due to the serene environment. The trails are forested with rhododendron and junipers in bloom and other wildflowers. Moreover, the chances of heavy rainfall, snowfall, landslides, and avalanches are lower in spring. Spring is the most suitable season for the treks since the climate is moderate and the environment is very beautiful. Trekkers can also enjoy the benefit of longer daylight hours and thus have more time for exploration and adventure.

Autumn Season (September to November)

Autumn is a great time to be in the Everest region including EBC and Island Peak with moderate temperatures and no rain on any of our trails. These weather conditions are favorable for trekking as it provides good clear skies and stable terrain for both experienced and novice trekkers.

Autumn also gives the region a festive feeling. Several festivals like Dashain and Tihar are held during this season and thus trekkers get the chance to experience the culture of the communities in which they visit. These festivals add cultural experiences including traditional music, dance and food.

Can I Do This Trek and Expedition In Off Seasons?

While EBCTrek with Island Peak Climbing is possible during the off seasons like monsoon and winter, it is not recommended.

The Everest Region is characterized by very cold weather and heavy snowfalls in the winter season. These conditions make the trails treacherous even for experienced hikers. The risk of frostbite and hypothermia also rises and most of the lodges and tea houses on the way will be closed or with limited services.

The trails become slippery and muddy during the monsoon season, and the risk of falls and injuries is high. Landslides, avalanches and floods are frequent during this time and present serious risks. Moreover, it is difficult to see the spectacular mountain views due to the cloud cover and overcast skies that are common for this trek.

Considering all these factors, trekking in the off-season is not advisable for anyone who wants to have a safe and enjoyable trekking experience. Weather conditions are often very unpredictable and can change in a short time, which makes the trek and climb even more challenging.

Nevertheless, if you are an adventurer and are ready with the right training, packing, and preparations, you can consider trekking in the off-season. Be prepared with the right gear and sufficient acclimatization for winter and monsoon treks in the Everest region.

Difficulty Level of EBCTrek with Island Peak Climbing

The EBC with Island Peak is considered as the challenging journey. This journey has several challenges such as weather conditions, altitude sickness and terrains. Furthermore, trekkers also encounter logistical challenges in terms of lodging, food, and other supplies.

The trek takes you to the high altitudes, 5000 meters above sea level, therefore the risk of altitude sickness is high. Preparation and acclimatization are very important. Trekkers should walk at a slow and constant rate and remember to drink water frequently to reduce fatigue.

Alcohol and caffeine products should also be avoided because it can lead to dehydration and increase the risk of altitude sickness. The weather in these regions can change from sunny to overcast within a few hours. Thus, it is crucial to pack waterproof items.

Everest region is famous for its scenic beauty but also has difficult terrains. The route consists of rough boulders, stony trails, steep climbs, and downhill and uphill paths. The trekkers should be careful so as not to get injured because even small cuts may need to be evacuated because there are no hospitals or clinics at high altitudes. It is necessary to train with the gear and equipment for this trek.

Lodging and food along the trail are primitive and therefore need the hikers to be flexible. Food and accommodation are basic and trekkers may have to wait to use squat toilets. The lack of water makes showering impossible so the use of wet wipes is inevitable.

Island Peak has technical sections, especially around the headwall. Thus, climbers need to have some basic mountain climbing skills to undertake this demanding trek.

Food and Accommodation Facilities

The available food and accommodation centers in the area include teahouses and guesthouses. These teahouses provide limited food and accommodation to the trekkers. Those traveling should have rooms with beds, mattresses, sheets, pillows and blankets to ensure warm nights during their travel.

Teahouses also offer nutritious meals that are warm and fulfilling with various types of delicious foods ranging from Nepalese to Indian foods. Another food that is a perfect food for the trekkers is the Nepali Dal Bhat which is healthy and replenishing besides being cost effective.

Also, you will stay in Island Peak Base Camp while trekking guides help to pitch tents. All these arrangements are taken care of which eliminates the need for you to arrange these. There are also special teahouses that provide additional services such as WiFi, hot water, and an additional outlet for charging devices.

The breakfast menu would consist of toast bread, eggs, and coffee or tea. Some of the hot drinks prepared for the trek include tea, mint, lemon, garlic tea, coffee, juice, and nutritious snacks such as protein bars to boost energy for the journey.

Altitude Sickness and Acclimatization

Acute mountain sickness or altitude sickness is a condition which may affect travelers who wish to visit destinations at altitudes over 8000 feet (2,400m). A number of symptoms can be experienced from mild headaches to dizziness, nausea to even HAPE and HACE.

This is one of the major issues that may arise during the EBC with Island Peak Climbing. EBC lies at 5364 meters and the Island Peak lies at 6,165 meters above sea level. So trekkers and climbers are most prone to these health issues, that’s why it is crucial to acclimatize.

Progressive climb gives the body time to acclimatize to low oxygen levels; a general guideline: do not increase sleeping altitude by more than 1000 ft (300 m) per day and do not climb more than 3-4 times in 5-6 days. Drinking adequate water, consuming an appropriate amount of food, and abstaining from alcoholic beverages and strenuous activity during the acclimatization phase are also beneficial.

Sometimes, drugs such as Diamox (acetazolamide) are prescribed to aid the acclimatization process but take these medications under the supervision of a physician.

Permits and Licenses

The first is the Sagarmatha National Park Entry Permit. The cost is NRs. 3000 for international trekkers and NRs. 1000 for Indian trekkers and NRs. 100 for Nepalese trekkers. This permit is important because EBC is located in the Sagarmatha National Park, which is a protected area designated to protect the wildlife and plant species. The permit ensures that the environment is not tampered with and supports the conservation process.

Second is the Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Municipality Entry Permit that costs NRs. 2000-300 per person. This is needed to enter the Khumbu region which includes the EBC and Island Peak climb. The fee helps in the development and maintenance of the trekking routes in the local community.

Also, if your trek starts from Jiri and passes through Lukla, you will need the Gaurishankar Conservation Area Entry Permit. This optional permit costs NRs. 3000 per person. This is necessary as you will be passing through another protected area that is rich in biodiversity and cultural heritage.

Getting these permits is not only important because of the local regulations but also because it supports conservation efforts and the people that live in the areas through which you will be hiking.

Above all, you also need to acquire climbing permits from Nepal Mountaineering Association to Climb Island Peak. The cost of climbing Island Peak varies depending on the season as the weather and the number of tourists change. The cost is the highest in the spring season of March to May at USD 250 per person because of the favorable weather and high popularity of climbers.

From September to November, the price then decreases to USD 125 per person as the weather remains pleasant but the demand is relatively low. The cheapest price for climbing is in the winter (December to February) and summer (June to August), which both cost USD 70 per person. These lower costs may be attributed to the harsher weather conditions and fewer climbers.

Guides and Porters

The use of guides and porters is crucial for the EBC trek with Island Peak climbing. Their local knowledge helps to avoid accidents due to difficult terrain and weather conditions which can be highly unpredictable in high altitudes. Guides are also of great help because they offer cultural information and assist in the process of acclimatization by regulating the speed of the tour. Porters help to lighten the load and provide freedom from the strenuous job of carrying heavy luggage.

In addition, solo trekking in Nepal has been prohibited since 1 April 2023 and requires guides. This regulation also improves safety by assuring that trekkers will always be counted and can be helped immediately in case of emergency. It is with the professional help that trekkers are able to go on the adventure with an assurance that they are in the right hands. Hiring guides and porters not only enhances the overall trekking experience but also helps generate employment opportunities in the Himalayan region and promotes a sustainable tourism model.

Communication and Internet Services

For those traveling through the Everest region for this journey, communication and internet access are limited. Nevertheless, there are various ways through which the service might be provided in remote areas even though the services are limited. Those who travel can get an Ncell or NTC SIM card and can avail themselves of different data packs to remain online and connected. These SIM cards also provide quite good coverage even in remote areas.

Where internet access is lacking in intensity Everest Link offers a solution. This WI-FI service provider has fair and affordable prices to enable the adventurers to stay connected online. Whether you are just sending news and updates to your family and friends or sharing beautiful images with other travelers on an adventure travel website, these products help you stay connected to the world wherever you are in the Himalayas.

Drinking Water

During the EBC Trek with Island Peak Climbing, hydration is vital. Tea houses and lodges are like resting places that provide clean water to thirsty travelers. There are shops along the trail that sell bottled water but they are quite expensive at $2 -3 or more per bottle. Instead, there are taps and streams on the way that you can use to refill your water bottle for free. Just remember to boil it or clean it with water purifying tablets to make sure that it is safe for drinking. Therefore, drink plenty of water and enjoy the process and do not forget to preserve this wonderful nature.
