For that, we must fly to Lukla from Tribhuvan International Airport, where our representative will drop you. After around 45 minutes of flight, you will land at Lukla Airport (also known as Tenzing Norgay Airport).

You will then rest for a few periods and plan on the short hike to Phakding. Trek from Lukla to Phakding will take around 3 to 4 hours. We must traverse the remote trails with rocky landscapes while we tend to reach the destination. First, we will catch an uphill trail that leads us to Chheplung. The lush green forests and the scenery of Ama Dablam will cherish our journey here.

Then, we will continue our trek towards another Sherpa village, Nurning. It is a culturally rich settlement with chortens around the corner. We will push our final stage of today’s hike from Nurning and then reach Phakding passing through the dense forests of rhododendron and pine. Tonight, we will stay at a tea house in Phakding.

Day 4 comes with excitement as we hike to Namche Bazaar from Phakding following around a 5 to 6 hours of walk. We will start our day with a warm breakfast and then buckle up for the trek. Leaving Phakding behind, we will reach the Buddhist settlement of Bengkar after passing the forest area.

Though the trek is quite challenging, the stunning views of Mt. Everest and Ama Dablam will soothe the journey. From Bengkar, we will follow the trail alongside Bhote Koshi River and then make it to Monjo. Monjo is the place where you can purchase the permits for the Everest Three High Passes Trek if you have not got it yet.

A few hours of hiking from Monjo, we will finally reach Namche, the Gate of Everest. Tonight, we will stay at a guest house in Namche.

Trekking to high altitude destinations is very challenging. You must be very fit and mentally strong to try such treks and Everest Three High Passes Trek is surely one of them. So, on the fifth day, you will fully rest and acclimatize as you will be already at the altitude of 3,440 meters. You can explore nearby areas if you want.

To acclimatize yourself, you must focus on staying hydrated, eating nutritious food, and taking enough rest. We recommend every trekker to have a slow pace during this trek as hurriedness can exhaust you, posing risk of altitude sickness and other related health hazards.

Today, you'll hike up to Tengboche at 3870 meters, which takes around 5 to 6 hours from Namche Bazaar. The trail from the right side of Namche Bazaar will lead you along the Dudh Koshi River. As you leave Namche Bazaar and elevate your altitude, you will be welcomed with the wide range of Himalayas, including Mt. Everest, Ama Dablam, Thamserku, Cho Oyu, and others.

Today's hike will take you through the route full of tea shops and vendors. After crossing a suspension bridge, we will reach Phunke Tenga Village, where you can rest for some time and enjoy your lunch. After that, you will proceed to the dense forest of rhododendron, oak, and pine trees, where you can have a close up view of the flora and fauna from the Sagarmatha National Park.

After a short walk from there, you will finally reach Tengboche village, where Tengboche Monastery lies. It is an ancient Buddhist monastery built in 1916 by Lama Gulu. You can also dive into Buddhist culture. See mani walls, chortens, and prayer flags on the way.

After having breakfast at Tengboche we will initiate our trek in the early morning to Dingboche at 4360 meters above sea level. Starting off, we will cross the rocky path with scattered vegetation having hardly any green trees and plants in that area. However, the amazing vistas of Mount Everest, Ama Dablam and Lhotse will boost our journey.

To begin with, we proceed towards the Buddhist village at Deboche which is 3820 meters above sea level. After that, we will start our trek to Pangboche where the renowned monastery of Pangboche is located. It is one of the oldest monasteries in Khumjung region. Leaving Pangboche, we are going to continue our trek uphill along the remote and unknown path towards Somare.

Having reached there we have to cut across Imja Khola before entering Dingboche, one of the best viewpoints in Everest Region. Tonight we will stay in a teahouse.

It is the second acclimatization phase in your trip to Everest Three High Passes Trek. While you are in Dingboche, the focus will be on your acclimatization but at this point of time there is also an option to go for a short hike and enjoy the beauty that Dingboche village has. You can go to the Pangboche Monastery and understand Buddhist culture in detail. Furthermore, you can hike to Nangkartshang Peak (5083m) and enjoy the scenery.

Today, we will hike for around 4 hours and reach Chukhung at 4730 meters above sea level. The trek starts with a walk along the trail that passes through the yak pastures. The meadows of the surroundings are worthwhile to watch while the stunning views of Ama Dablam and Island Peak always smile upon you.

A few hours of walk from Chukhung and you will first reach Bibre. It is a small settlement rich with the local culture. Leaving Bibre behind, we will pass through a steep ridge before making it to Chukhung. Overnight stay at a tea house.

Now, we have already reached 4730 meters above sea level. At this altitude, we are more prone to altitude related issues, including AMS (Acute Mountain Sickness), HACE (High Altitude Cerebral Edema), and HAPE (High Altitude Pulmonary Edema).

Today, we will fully focus on resting and avoiding any physical stress, so our body can well-adapt into the changing altitudes. Trekkers are recommended to take enough rest, stay hydrated, and eat nutritious food so that they can remain healthy at such strenuous altitude with extreme climate.

From Chukhung, we will now head towards Kongma La Pass and complete the first mission. The path leading to Kongma La Pass runs alongside Nuptse Glacier in the west. We must first cross the upstream river and then hike through the grassy ridge. This might be challenging but we assure you that the magnificent views of the glacial lakes around the corner will always be the boost for your trek. We will reach Kongma La Pass within a short period. which features Buddhist emblems like prayer flags.

Kongma La Pass is the highest of all passes in the Everest region. It outsources the heavenly views of over 20 peaks, including Lhotse, Ama Dablam, Cho Oyu, and Makalu.

After a detailed exploration of Kongma La Pass, we will head right to the North towards Khumbu Glacier. From there, it only takes around a couple of hours to reach Lobuche. Overnight stay at a tea house.

From Lobuche, we will start our hike early in the morning to reach Gorak Shep and Everest Base Camp. We will walk through the Khumbu Glacier area, crossing Lobuche Pass at 5110 meters above sea level. A few hours of hiking and we will finally reach Gorak Shep, the last Sherpa settlement of the Everest Region.

From Gorak Shep, you will embark on your trek to Everest Base Camp where you can have a 360 view of Mount Everest and other major peaks like Nuptse, Khumbuste, Pumori mountains. After exploring the base camp, you will return to Gorak Shep at 5180 meters and stay at a tea house.

On the thirteenth day, you will start a hike to Kala Patthar (5,545 meters) early in the morning. Our main motive is to have cinematic views of the Himalayas, including Mt. Everest and scenic sunrise.

You will pass through the strenuous but exciting remote trails that feature rocky pathways. But considering the beauty of Kala Patthar and the sightseeing prospects from there, visiting this destination is worthwhile.

After exploring Kala Patthar in detail, we will retrace the trail and return to Lobuche. We will traverse the Gorak Shep and then cross Lobuche Pass at 5110 meters and then reach the destination.

To start our trek to Dzongla, we must retrace our way back to Dughla (Thokla) first. We will traverse across Khumbu Glacier on the right side and pass Thokla Pass at 4830 meters above sea level.

On the southeast, you can have a clear view of Ama Dablam while you proceed towards Cho La region. Also, there is a high-altitude lake called Cho La Tsho, which comes before reaching Dzongla.

After a few hours of walking, we will finally reach Dzongla, where we will stay overnight.

Today, we will pass across the second highest pass of the Everest region, Cho La Pass at 5,420 meters above sea level. Starting our hike early in the morning from Dzongla village, we will move ahead towards Cho La Pass.

From there, you can have stunning views of Everest, Ama Dablam, and Thamserku peak while you can enjoy the scenery of sunrise and sunset as well. But since we must reach Gokyo today, we will only spend a short period at Cho La Pass.

Leaving Cho La Pass behind, we will hike towards Cho La Phedi and traverse Thangnak before reaching Gokyo Valley. Tonight, we will stay at a tea house in Gokyo.

Today, we will start our hike to Gokyo Ri (5,357 m) early in the morning. It takes around 3 to 4 hours to reach there, so it might be physically exhausting. We recommend you pack necessary items for this phase of trek.

From Gokyo Ri, you can have the stunning views of Gokyo village, Nogzumpa Glacier, Mt. Everest, Mt Lhotse, Makalu, and Cho Oyu.

After a detailed exploration of Gokyo Ri, we will return to Gokyo and rest for the whole day. Since the altitude is above 5000 meters above sea level, you must be very concerned about your health. So, resting is highly recommended on this day.

The sixteenth day of our trek to the Three Passes of Everest will take us to Renjo La Pass. Standing at the elevation of 5,360 meters above sea level, it is the third highest pass of the Everest Region.

From Gokyo, we will start our hike early and traverse alongside Gokyo Tsho. After a short hike enjoying the scenery of the frozen land areas with Himalayas in the north, we will finally reach Renjo La Pass.

From Renjo La Pass, we will make a steep descent towards its base through the rocky trail. Enjoying the vistas of frozen lakes, including Relama Tsho and Renjo Lake, we will descend down to the Sherpa settlement of Lumde.

From Lumde, it takes only around one hour to reach Marlung, where you will stay overnight at a tea house.

Now comes the phase of descending back. First, we will make our way back to Namche Bazaar for which we must hike for around 6 to 7 hours. The rugged trail leads us to Tarnga and Thame as we also cherish the vistas of the snow capped Himalayas and the lush green forest.

Traversing the rocky terrain through the Buddhist village of Samde and Mende, we will finally proceed our way towards Namche. Upon reaching Namche, we will explore the multi-cultural lifestyle and stay at a guest house overnight.

You have already come to the end of the Three High Passes Trek on Everest. Today, we will return back to Lukla and stay overnight there. You will traverse the Sherpa settlements of Chheplung and Nurning and also pass through lush green forests alongside the Bhote Koshi River before reaching the destination.

It takes around 7 hours to reach Lukla from Namche. Remember, the hike can be physically challenging, so make sure that you have packed necessary gears and equipment for today.

Today, you will fly back to Kathmandu at Tribhuvan International Airport from Lukla. It takes around 45 minutes to reach the capital city from Lukla.

You will onboard a flight in the morning after breakfast and upon reaching Kathmandu, our officials will escort you to your respective hotels, where you stay overnight.

The Everest Three High Passes Trek has now come to the end. Today, you will be escorted to Tribhuvan International Airport by our officials from where you will onboard a flight to your home country, or if you like to extend trip for other city also you can provide you Transport service.

Accommodation in Everest Three High Passes Trek

When it comes to accommodation facilities during this trek, you must understand that tea houses are the most common form. So your access to the facilities like internet and electricity might be limited. It is recommended to prepare for these situations beforehand, so it would not lead you to a bad mood later.

There are three types of accommodation that you can opt for during the trek. They are:

  • Tea House
  • Guest House/Hotels

Tea Houses

If you choose to stay at a tea house, the cost will come to be around $5 to $7 per day. They offer you food and logistic support at a reasonable price, which is considered cheaper than staying at a hotel or lodge.

Facilities in Tea houses are limited in comparison to Guest House or Hotel. But some offer services like internet and hot showers too.

Hotels

Hotels are another form of accommodation you will find during the Everest Three Pass Trek. However, it is an expensive means of accommodation and is possible only when you are at Namche Bazaar.

Since Namche is much more developed than other places in the Everest Region, there are plenty of hotels for staying overnight. The average hotel cost might range from $10 to $30 per night. It all depends on what services you are enjoying.

Hotels come with the services of an attached bathroom, hot showers, electricity, and internet.

Food Available in Everest Three High Passes Trek

Regarding the food during this trek, you can’t say no to our Nepalese cuisine. The dish including Dal, Bhaat, and Tarkari is one of the most-liked cuisines for the international trekkers. Similarly, you can enjoy other dishes such as Dhindo, Gundruk, Momo (Chinese Dumplings), Noodles, and others.Hotels at Namche Bazaar offer the western taste as well, including pizza and burgers.

Best Time for Everest Three High Passes Trek

The best time for the three pass trek varies upon your expectations and preferences. But considering the weather condition and climate pattern, Spring (March to May) and Autumn (September to November) are the best seasons to embark on this journey.

Spring (March-May):

Spring, which starts in March and ends in May is the perfect time to embark on the Everest Three Pass Trek. Since this timeframe features the most stable months of the year, trekking to remote destinations in Nepal is highly recommended.

Spring comes with beautiful weather featuring mild temperature, clear views, and less chance of rainfall or snowfall. The temperature ranges from 17 °C during the daytime with a maximum temperature of 25 °C while the night times can be harsh with temperature dropping to -15 °C. So, essential remedies are urged to make for the trek.

Spring is the season of colors, when forests go in full bloom of flowers and green leaves. This makes your sightseeing activities more worthwhile than ever. Similarly, the clear skies and less clouds around the surroundings will open ways to have the spectacular views of Mt. Everest, Ama Dablam, Lhotse, Gokyo Ri, Gokyo Lakes, and Khumbu Glacier.

Autumn (September- November):

Autumn is another great time to go for Everest Three High Pass Trek. This timeframe is somehow similar to Spring as the weather conditions are stable. Moderate temperatures, clear skies, and lower chance of problematic rains or snowfall are some of the major reasons to embark on the trek during Autumn.

If you are here for sightseeing purposes, Autumn season serves you well with the clear views of the Himalayas, traditional villages, Buddhist cultural landmarks, and other natural sceneries.

The average temperature during Autumn ranges from 14 degrees C to 20 degrees C during day time while the morning and night time temperature drops to -10 degrees C.

Monsoon (June-August):

Monsoon season falls under the off-season time frame in Nepal and high altitude treks are not recommended. Monsoon brings heavy rainfall in Nepal and it also comes with several natural calamities, including landslides, upstream flood, and many more. This can be very challenging in navigating through the trails of Three High Passes.

Moreover, the rainy days will be very challenging in terms of navigation. The trails become slippery which can be a prime reason for trekker’s injury. And there is a limited service evacuation during monsoon if you need emergency evacuation due to health issues.

Winter (December-February):

We also do not recommend you to travel to the three passes in the Everest Region during the Winter season. Winter is the synonym of extremely low temperatures, where the average temperature will be around 4°C in the daytime and -14°C in the night.

Since you will be hiking to three of the high altitude passes in Everest region, there is a high chance of suffering from altitude sickness. Acute Mountain Sickness, High Altitude Pulmonary Edema, and High Altitude Cerebral Edema can really be a problem during winter.

If you opt to embark on this trek during winter, make sure that you have prepared well enough with your gears, clothes, and trekking equipment. Acclimatize yourself at high altitude and make your ascend gradual, so that you will avoid any kinds of altitude related illnesses.

Travel Insurance for Trek To Everest Three High Passes

Travel insurance is very important to those who choose to embark on Everest Three Passes trek in Nepal. It acts as a shield to unexpected emergencies, including medical costs, emergency evacuation by helicopter and cancellations of trips due to unforeseen circumstances. Specialized insurance policies are available for trekking in Nepal, which covers the high-altitude trekking and issues related to altitudes; hence it is crucial that a proper policy be selected as per the needs of an individual and requirements along with journey.

Electricity, Drinking water

Electricity available on the tea houses and hotels you stay during the Everest Three high Passes Trek mostly depends on solar panels for power generation. At hotels, you can enjoy 24/7 electricity services with fees including in your overall staying package.

However, some tea houses will charge you for the services. Whether it's for charging your gadgets or having access to WIFI connections, they might cost you extra money. It's advisable to bring portable power banks as backup and conserve battery power to extend device usability between charging opportunities.

Considering drinking water, Tea houses around the trail will offer you clean drinking water, so you don’t have to worry about buying them. You can purchase the stored bottle of mineral water which might cost you around $2 per bottle.

Communication and Internet

The communication and internet access during an Everest Three Pass trek are very limited because of the remote location. However, you can always use cellular network coverage for being online.

Emergency communication is sometimes done with satellite phones, though very expensive. Wi-Fi is intermittently accessible in some teahouses and lodges but its speed and reliability are poor.

Coverage of local SIM cards is limited, and mostly it can be found in the lower altitudes. Internet cafes are available in Lukla and Namche Bazaar, but the connection speeds are quite slow. In areas without connectivity, communication methods such as personal contact and guides’ messages are the common types.

Tipping

Hiring guides is a compulsion for remote trekking in Nepal. Guides and porters are the integral part of your Three High Passe Trek as well. While they charge you for their service during the journey, tipping is also highly expected.

It’s all your choice whether to tip or not; however, if you see the tipping trend, trekkers tip anywhere from 10 to 15% of their cost to guides and porters. Remember, tips are not mandatory but they are highly expected.

Trip Extension

Everest Three High Passes Trek is one of many trek packages we provide at Himalayan Partner Treks. After a successful completion of your trek, there is a provision of you extending your stay in Nepal.

We recommend other beautiful destinations like Pokhara, Lumbini, and Chitwan if you are willing to extend the trip. Adventurous activities like rafting, jungle safari, paragliding, and canoeing are some of our best picks. You can delve into the adventures of these places for sure at a reasonable cost.

Arrival and departure info

While you arrive in Nepal at Tribhuvan International Airport, there’s no need to worry about your companion. We will pick you up and drop off from and to the airport after your arrival and transfer you to your respective hotel. The important thing is that you must share your flight details on your arrival and departure date.

Currency exchange, ATM, and card

Nepalese Rupees is the local currency you can use during your stay in Nepal for the Three Pass Trek. You must be updated with the currency exchange rate, which is 1 USD = NPR 132, as of now.

You can find lots of foreign money exchange centers in Kathmandu. Besides, you can also exchange a few amounts of cash in the hotel you stay in. For easy handling, we recommend you to bring cash and exchange them here.

For withdrawing the cash, you can use ATMs in Kathmandu, which are open 24/7. The max. Withdrawal amount from the foreign card is NPR. 35,000, which costs NPR. 500 for processing.

And if you are from India, make sure you are acknowledged with the information that only INR 100 Note is legal in Nepal.

Apart from that, you must exchange all your cash in Kathmandu since there are no money exchanges and ATMs in the trail to Everest Three High Passes Trail.
