The EBC Trek via Gokyo with Helicopter Return is a good choice for those who want to visit all these places in one go. This adventurous journey allows trekkers to visit all six stunning Gokyo Lakes: Gokyo Cho (Dudh Pokhari), Thonak Cho (the largest), Gyazumpa Cho, Tanjung Cho, Ngozumpa Cho, and Longbanga Cho. One of the interesting parts of the trek is the challenging crossing of the Cho La Pass at 5,420 meters. Important places like Kala Patthar at 5545 meters and Everest base camp at 5364 meters are incorporated in the detailed trekking schedule below.

Another interesting part of this trek was the helicopter pickup from Gorak Shep and the journey to Kathmandu. This provides a different view from the viewpoint of the Khumbu glacier and several mountains such as Ama Dablam, Everest, Thamserku, and Lhotse. It also cuts down the trekking distance by half.

This fifteen-day trek Itinerary starts with a flight from the domestic terminal of Tribhuvan International Airport to Lukla, a 35 to 45-minute flight, though in peak season, it may fly to Manthali airport. For those who do not want to travel by road to Ramechhap, there are daily helicopter services from Kathmandu to Lukla provided by Himalayan Partner Treks.

After arriving in Lukla, trekkers will cross the Dudh Koshi River valley to Namche Bazaar, Sherpa’s trading center. The route goes through beautiful villages like Chheplung, Phakding, and Monjo, where one can enjoy spectacular views of the mountains. Namche is used as a point of acclimatization before proceeding with the trek, passing through Machhermo and Dole and finally into the Gokyo Valley. The beautiful and rather calm Gokyo Valley, with its lakes and mountains, is going to impress everyone. Trekking enthusiasts can also climb Gokyo Ri, which is at 5357 meters; some people say that this place has a better view of Mount Everest than Kala Patthar.

Leaving the scenic beauty of Gokyo Valley behind, the trek goes through other beautiful places like Dragnag, Cho La Pass, Dzongla, and Lobuche. It ends at Gorak Shep, with the highlight being the Everest Base Camp. From here, trekkers can go around the nearby snow-capped peaks and then proceed to Gorakshep. The subsequent day entails a hike to Kala Patthar to get a better view of Mount Everest.

The trip finishes with the helicopter ride back to Kathmandu, making the ending of the EBC Trek via Gokyo with the helicopter return package very memorable. If you require additional information or options for the present package, feel free to contact us at any time. Our team is always on hand to help and make your experience as enjoyable and hassle-free as it can be 24/7.

What To Expect from Ebc Trek with Gokyo Lake and Heli Return to Kathmandu?

The EBC Trek with Gokyo Lake and Heli Return offers a great, epic Himalayan adventure. Equally, trekkers can expect quite demanding high-altitude hikes in very varied landscapes, ranging from lush forests to rocky moraines. You will come across the lively villages of the Sherpas, with old monasteries and views of mountains that cannot be described. You also get to stop at famous landmarks such as Namche Bazaar and Everest Base Camp, not forgetting that the turquoise waters of Gokyo Lakes are there to add extra charm.

hen comes the even tougher crossing of Cho La Pass, which, like everything else, is just so thrilling. The view will just take your breath away with the brilliant views of Everest, Lhotse, and other peaks touching the sky. Accommodation is in very basic teahouses, and the food is basic but hearty. Be prepared for cold temperatures and a probable spell of altitude sickness.

The return by helicopter adds much excitement, with bird's eye views of the Khumbu region, before whisking one back to the comforts of Kathmandu. This trek is full of adventures, culture, and nature, which gives an experience that one will never forget.

Highlights of Ebc Trek with Gokyo Lake and Heli Return to Kathmandu

  • Explore the bustling settlement of Namche Bazaar.
  • Reach the highest mountain passes, Cho La Pass and Renjo La Pass.

Kala Patthar: Everest's Skyline Throne

Kala Patthar is also called black rock, and it is also the highest point of altitude, 5,545 meters, along the EBC trek. This vantage point offers the best view of Mount Everest and other nearby mountains, making it a favorite of trekkers. What makes it even beautiful is that this trekking occurs on the Khumbu Glacier and the ice falls that are located at areas considered lower, thus making this a sight to behold in the eyes other than the general thrill that is felt in the entire hike.

The climb up to Kala Patthar is quite satisfying, for one feels that he has achieved something, and above that, one gets to witness the magnificence of the Himalayas in the closest way possible.

Is Helicopter Return From EBC safe?

Helicopter return from Everest Base Camp is safe and well-handled. Flights are operated only by high-altitude flying-trained and experienced pilots. The helicopters used are those passing several tests on mountain conditions and regularly maintained. Your guides will be with you during the flight to make sure you are comfortable and safe. Before flying, you will be given a safety briefing and shown how to use provided headsets for communication during the flight.

Flights carry oxygen cylinders in case, against the unlikely eventuality, a person might experience respiratory trouble at altitude. This precautionary step generally alleviates any possible discomfort during the descent. Weather conditions are carefully checked, and only when conditions are safe are flights undertaken. In bad weather, your guides will make alternative arrangements.

Cho La Pass: Gateway Between Everest and Gokyo

It is located at an altitude of 5,420 meters, or 17,782 feet, above mean sea level and is situated in the Khumbu region of Nepal. Cho La Pass connects the two classical treks: Everest and Gokyo. The crossing takes about 6-8 hours.

Beginning with a steep uphill slog over boulders, giving way to snow and ice fields higher up, it also passes a small glacier, normally crossed with the aid of crampons and ice axes. Fixed ropes assist in crossing the more exposed parts.

Finally, from the top of the pass, one gets magnificent views of Ama Dablam, Cholatse, and Lobuche East. The descent consists of negotiating very steep loose scree slopes.

Indeed, this crossing is very much akin to a high-altitude obstacle course with icy patches, narrow ledges, and changing snow conditions. The weather can also be quite unpredictable, so early starts are essential.

Cultural Insights on Gokyo EBC Trek and Heli Return

While providing breathtaking landscapes, the Everest Base Camp Trek with Gokyo Lakes is actually more of a journey into the heart of Sherpa culture. You will move along an ancient trail and come across a tapestry of traditions that have been flourishing for centuries in the shadow of the highest peaks on Earth.

Sherpa Culture and Traditions

The world-famous mountaineers, the Sherpas, are deeply soaked in Tibetan Buddhist cultural heritage. Their way of life is intertwined with spiritual practice, communal harmony, and respect for mountains. Colorful prayer flags flap in the wind as one trek, carrying their mantras. Sacred inscriptions grace the paths on main walls, which remind one of the spiritual significance of the journey.

Hospitality is one of the main features of Sherpas. A beautiful smile and a nice cup of butter tea await you in the tea houses and villages on the way. Do not miss the opportunity to taste some traditional dishes: Tsampa or Thukpa—noodle soup—which serves both for nourishment and taste.

Monasteries and Gompas En Route

Trekkers come across old religious monasteries and gompas on the way as one walks. These are peaceful places where monks live and pray.

One of the famous places is the Tengboche Monastery, situated a bit higher in the mountains, way up at around 12,700 feet above sea level. You may also hear monks chanting prayers with the big mountains in the background. There's another interesting place—Khumjung Monastery. They say they have the scalp of a Yeti, this legendary snow creature, right there.

While getting close to a place called Gokyo, you will see Ngozumpa Glacier. It has bright blue-green lakes that look like big bowls of water.

Why Choose EBC Trek with Gokyo Lake and Heli Return Itinerary?

This itinerary offers the full-rounded Himalayan experience since it combines the Everest Base Camp Classic Trek with the breathtaking area of Gokyo Lakes. You will encounter the diversified landscapes and cultures while visiting iconic places like Namche Bazaar, Tengboche Monastery, and Everest Base Camp—certainly not missing less-traveled gems such as the serene Gokyo Lakes and the testing Cho La Pass.

The altitude sickness risk decreases since the route provides better acclimatization. Similarly you will get to visit more Sherpa villages and be involved with the local culture. Returning by helicopter will save you time and energy while giving unforgettable views from the air across the whole region.

This itinerary passes through Lukla, Phakding, Namche, Dole, Machhermo, Gokyo, Thangna, Dzongla, Lobuche, Gorak Shep, Kala Patthar, and Pheriche, thus affording the visitor an all-in-one Everest region experience beyond the normal EBC trek.

Trip PlanExpand all

Upon arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport in Nepal, you need to complete the visa procedures and then retrieve your baggage. At the exit of the arrival hall, our trip leader will await you with a placard in his hand reading Himalayan partner treks.

Upon arrival at your hotel, you will have some welcome drinks. Then, towards the evening, your trekking guide appears in the hotel lobby to brief you about the activities of the next day.

Max Altitude: 1400 m Meals: Breakfast-Lunch-DinnerAccommodation: Hotels

Our trek to EBC begins with a flight to Lukla, which takes us to Tenzing Hillary Airport. Once we reach the base, we look for our group and start off the real trek. Since it is the first day, this hike would not be tiring at all. Therefore acclimatization to this high altitude will be easy. We cross the Chaurikharka Village and cross the Dudh Koshi River before we reach the village of Phakding for the night's halt.

In Phakding, there is usually some free time for sightseeing. One of the many visiting pursuits will be the beautiful Rimishung Monastery, which will again give us an opportunity to grasp the life of the local people. This first part of the trip is going to be a wonderful combination of the adventurous and the leisurely, thereby creating the right note for the rest of the tour.

Max Altitude: 2,850m and 2,650m Meals: Breakfast-Lunch-DinnerAccommodation: Tea Houses

We will move along the Dudh Koshi River and observe the panoramic views of the snowy mountains all along the way. The path we are going to take crosses many suspension bridges, one of which includes the Hillary Suspension Bridge. Crossing these bridges and having gone through such charming villages as Zapute, Toktok, Benkar, and Chumoa, we reach Monjo finally. We are in Sagarmatha National Park, which is a park meant to conserve mountainous natural settings only.

Next, we have to go through the required permit registration at Monjo, and then the steep climb through the forests is just the first view of Mt. Everest opens up. I will proceed with the trek, and we will eventually arrive at Namche Bazaar, which is quite active.

Max Altitude: 3440 Meters Meals: Breakfast-Lunch-DinnerAccommodation: Tea Houses

Namche will be our stop for an extra night to help our bodies acclimatize to the high altitude. This Sherpa village is located in a large sheltered basin and has the following activities available. After breakfast, the day can be spent hiking up to Everest View Hotel, Khumjung, and Khunde, or leisurely walking up to Thame (3810m) through the beautiful Bhote Koshi River valley. The other activity is to visit the National Park Headquarters to see interesting features of the lifestyle and Sherpa people.

Namche Bazaar has numerous cafes, restaurants, and hotels with Wi-Fi souvenir and gear shops, as well as other facilities. Tourism is also possible in the Sagarmatha National Park Visitor Center, Sherpa villages, Hillary School, Yaks, and Monasteries. These activities are the best as they afford the tourist a cultural experience of this area and the way of life in the region.

Max Altitude: 3440 Meters Meals: Breakfast-Lunch-DinnerAccommodation: Tea Houses

Our trekking deviates from the standard Everest Base Camp as we omit Tengboche and do a direct climb from Namche Bazaar to Kyangjuma Village. Here, we are given the privilege of seeing the peaks of Thamserku, Kantega, and Ama Dablam enshrouded. Onward, we encountered the most challenging part of the day’s hike to Mong La, a beautiful viewpoint on the slope of Mt. Khumbila with an excellent view of other mountains and valleys with historical Chorten.

The flora and fauna we get to view include wildflowers, Rhododendrons, pheasants, mountain goats, and musk deer, after which we descend to Mong La for lunch before proceeding down through the forests. The trail offers spectacular vistas of Mt. Ama Dablam (6,812m) and Mt. Khumbila (5,761m) as we come out of the forests of pine and rhododendrons to arrive at the banks of the river at Phortse Tenga. We then move through nice sceneries, such as waterfalls and bridges, and arrive at the Dole village, where there are nice tea houses to welcome us.

Max Altitude: 4,040m Meals: Breakfast-Lunch-DinnerAccommodation: Tea Houses

We leave Dole today and climb up through lush green pastures with yaks grazing around, with colored chortens and prayer flags. From the Dole Valley, we begin the day's trek by making a gradual rise and then drop down to the level alongside the Dudh Kosi River. It's not a very tiring trek, although the altitude could make most inclines seem like a lot of work.

Further on, an alpine tundra area with not very rich vegetation and strong contrast between the rocky ground and snowy mountains against the background of the pure sky is observed. Later, after walking for another 2 hours, we reach Luza (4360m) and, an hour's walk later, a very welcoming lodge in Machhermo (4465m). Afternoon after lunch, we head for a short trek to the rocky moraine of Kyajo Ri and Machhermo Peak respectively. In the end, an overnight stay at one of the beautiful tea houses in the Machhermo village is planned.

Max Altitude: 4470 Meters Meals: Breakfast-Lunch-DinnerAccommodation: Tea Houses

The seventh day was fully devoted to acclimatization at Gokyo, which is at an altitude of 4500 meters. This is a critical time in our physical endurance since our body has to adapt to the thin air that comes with altitude to ensure that we are ready for the trek. We had the chance to visit the beautiful village of Machermo, which is located in the middle of the beautiful countryside.

There are many fascinating places of interest in the vicinity of Machermo. A few hundred meters away from the village lies a picture-perfect view, where one of the world’s tallest mountains, Cho Oyu, 8210 meters, towers over the village. This highest mountain, together with other neighboring mountains and the Ngozumpa Glacier, will certainly give you a memorable view.

Max Altitude: 4470 Meters Meals: Breakfast-Lunch-DinnerAccommodation: Tea Houses

The next day, we will start towards Gokyo, which is famous for its beauty, and I am looking forward to exploring it. Our trek will start with a climb of a hill that has a Chorten on its top, from where we will be able to have a look at the valley down and some of the mountains, such as Mt. Kangtega, Thamserku, and the great Cho-Oyu which stands at 8,153m high. We will climb over a ridge, and in a short and easy walk, we will be at Phangka, at an altitude of 4,480 meters.

Our next destination will then be a journey down to the riverbank, where we will have to climb steep slopes to the terminal moraine of the Ngozumpa Glacier. Nevertheless, we will continue the rather intense climb and get to an iron bridge across a stream. It will then become less steep as we follow the valley. The first lake we will encounter is Longpongo Lake, at 4,690m above sea level. It will be a pleasure to find the footprints of Lama on a stone, and you will be amazed to see the second lake, Taboche Tsho, with crystal clear water and blue color which shines during the sun.

Further on, there will be the third lake, which is connected to the second one by a rather active stream. Gokyo village, which is at the side of this third lake, and the majestic Cho-Oyu Mountain will allow us to take beautiful and memorable pictures with our cameras. It is always a great pleasure to have a good lunch, and after that, we will be more than willing to discover more of Dudh Pokhari and every scene in this beautiful place.

Max Altitude: 4,800m Meals: Breakfast-Lunch-DinnerAccommodation: Tea Houses

We will wake up early and proceed for a trek to Gokyo Ri, a vantage point for watching over Gokyo. From this angle, you will have a chance to enjoy the panorama of the Gokyo Lakes and the largest in the world, the Ngozumpa Glacier. Located at the Nepal-Tibet border, Gokyo Ri gives the trekkers a close look at the Tibetan giants that dominate the horizon. It has four 8,000+ meter giants: Mount Everest, Cho Oyu, Lhotse, and Makalu, all of which are highlighted with fresh morning light. The presence of these giants, as well as other mountains above 7,000 and 6,000 meters, will be so breathtaking.

In the morning, you will be shooting the outstanding views, and after that, you will return to Gokyo for lunch. The next day, we will proceed further to Thagnak, which will be the trail across the Ngozumpa Glacier and the eastern part of the Gokyo Valley. By the evening, on our arrival to Thagnak, we will stay in a comfortable teahouse where you will have the opportunity to warm up near the fireplace and share the emotion of the day, which is full of incredible experiences.

Max Altitude: 4780 Meters Meals: Breakfast-Lunch-DinnerAccommodation: Tea Houses

The trip starts at Thagnak, and the challenge is the steep and relentless uphill hiking. The trail is relatively difficult, narrow, and rocky, so be careful not to slide on the rocks when climbing. The final part of the trek is rather difficult: after climbing up to the Cho La pass, you are to be met with a great number of bushes and a snowy view of the mountains. After that, we shall steep down and drive alongside the glacier, making the trip more exciting.

As we continue up, we get to the lower parts of Awi Peak. This trail provides fascinating views of some of the giant Himalayas like Tawoche and Cholatse. After a short, steep decline, we’ll reach Lobuche – a small village that has a filling cluster of comfortable teahouses. As we proceed further, the ground becomes icy and covered with snow, and after some time, we arrive at Dzongla, our next night’s stop-over place located in the middle of the mountains.

Max Altitude: 4820 Meters Meals: Breakfast-Lunch-DinnerAccommodation: Tea Houses

The trek after the Dzongla passes on the ascending trail, which is rather more challenging as it traverses the moraine of the Khumbu glacier. On the way, there are a number of stones that have been placed as memorials for the Sherpas and climbers who have been killed on the Mountain of Everest. This is a rather sad parade that reminds us of the hostility of the mountains and the invincibility of man.

On the path further, the area becomes more and less broad; the path then turns and descends along the western side of the valley to the village of Lobuche. This stretch is good for viewing, especially at sunset, because the colors warm up above, and Nuptse looms behind in majesty. It is a beauty to watch the sunset over Nuptse if one is in this position because it is a break in such an unforgiving environment.

Max Altitude: 4910 Meters Meals: Breakfast-Lunch-DinnerAccommodation: Tea Houses

Today, we will wake up early in the morning and proceed for our trek to the Everest Base Camp. The path will involve the slopes of the mountain passes and the crevices of the Khumbu Glacier.

We will have our lunch in brief and also have some rest on the way before going on the trail that goes through what was once a huge lake of Gorak Shep. Even if the trek is rigid, it is not tiring because we are always looking forward to getting to the base camp.

Upon reaching the Everest Base Camp, we would be able to understand the courage of the climbers who are challenging the dangerous Khumbu IceFall. The tents of such climbers look colorful against the gray background and look especially beautiful in the spring.

From the base camp itself, we will be able to get an excellent view of the Nuptse, Khumbuste, and Pumori Mountains. On our way down, we can rise a little more to have a better look at the Khumbu Icefall and the way to the South Col before returning to Gorak Shep for the night.

Max Altitude: 5140 Meters Meals: Breakfast-Lunch-DinnerAccommodation: Tea Houses

We will get up early and hike to the highest viewpoint of the Everest Region, Kala Patthar. From this view, Mount Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Pumori, Changtse, and many other peaks offer breathtaking views from every side. The scenery at this altitude is simply magnificent and a deservedly unforgettable part of this trekking experience.

We will be flying back to Kathmandu on a helicopter, which offers aerial views of the mystic mountain range while departing. You will be transferred directly to your hotel from the Tribhuvan Airport domestic terminal after landing. Later in the evening, we will take a day off to rest and rejuvenate.

Max Altitude: 1400 m Meals: Breakfast-Lunch-DinnerAccommodation: Hotel

Our representative will escort you to the airport for your departure. After completing the formalities at the airport, we will bid you farewell to your home country.

Essential Information

Difficulty Level of Ebc Trek with Gokyo Lake and Heli Return to Kathmandu

The Everest Base Camp trek with Gokyo Lake and helicopter return to Kathmandu is, without doubt, a tough trek that covers an elevation of 4,700m to 5,000m above sea level. This high-altitude trek requires strength of both the body and the mind as trekkers have to traverse steep inclines and uneven grounds.

At these altitudes, oxygen is scarce, and one can easily get affected by altitude sickness, thereby the need for acclimatization. Every step is more difficult, and proper time is taken, and water is taken to ensure that it is safe to climb further up the mountain.

The trek lasts for more than six hours and sometimes on steep terrains that even the most experienced hikers cannot handle. The hours are long, the weather is unpredictable, and the trekking is at great heights, which certainly is energy-draining.

The trails to Gokyo Lake and Everest Base Camp are very rigorous and involve a lot of climbing; thus, physical strength and endurance are needed. The trekking activities require the trekkers to be ready with the right equipment, have a level of fitness, and know the hazards involved in trekking at high altitudes.

But the physical stress of this rigorous hike is eased by the helicopter ride back from Kala Patthar to Kathmandu. The last part, comprising a helicopter ride, is convenient as it affords the trekkers a comfortable means to descend after days of tiring hikes and spectacular sceneries; it also offers the trekkers an aerial view of the Himalayas. This return trip has a reverse view of the same journey and also ensures that the trip ends safely, physically, and mentally tiring trekkers get to rest.

Should I Hire Guides For the Trek?

The services of guides and porters would go a long way in boosting the experience of trekking as it comes with many benefits that help in increasing safety, comfort, and pleasure. Interpreters are a great help when it comes to the trails, the customs of the place, and making certain that one is on the right track.

On the other hand, porters are the ones who carry your hefty pieces of equipment, and you only need to carry your luggage as you go hiking with your eyes open to the beautiful scenery.

The advantages of having a guide do not end with the simple aspect of direction. Local guides are people from the area. Therefore, they give comprehensive information on the area’s history, culture, and any form of wildlife so you have a deeper understanding of the trek.

They are also taught basic first aid and can be a help in cases of an emergency, thus making your trek more safe. Also, a guide handles issues to do with permits, accommodation, and other issues that may cause a lot of stress, freeing up your time for the activities. A guide usually charges anything between $25 to $35 per day, and it is a worthy expense given the security that they offer and the added value in terms of experience.

Should I Hire Porters?

The porters are responsible for carrying most of the trekking loads and, hence, are essential in the whole process. They can carry up to 20-25 kilograms and assist in load bearing so that you will not find the trek very tiresome.

This is especially useful at the high altitudes where you need to conserve every drop of energy and every watt of electricity. Paying a porter normally costs between $20 to $30 per day, so you must pack all the necessities in a day pack and then leave the rest of the items for the porter to carry, which makes trekking much more enjoyable. Also, the use of porters from the region is advantageous to the community since it creates income sources for families in the area.

Required Permits for Gokyo EBC With Heli ReturnTrip

Before planning the EBC Trek with Gokyo Lake and Heli Return to Kathmandu, it is important to obtain the correct permits. Sagarmatha National Park Entry Permit is the first one, and generally, the permits are categorized based on the activities one intends to undertake in the conservation area. This is required for anyone trekking in the park and for Lukla to EBC and beyond.

The cost is NRs. International trekkers to be charged NRs. 3000. 1000 for SAARC nationals and NRs. 100 for Nepalese trekkers. This permit is vital to ensure that the ecological system of the area is preserved and also to boost the economic aspect of the area. You can get this permit at the NTB office in Kathmandu or the check-post of the park in Monjo.

The trekkers also must get the Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Municipality Entry Permit. This permit is fairly new and was issued to facilitate the developmental projects in the Khumbu area. The fee for this permit is NRs. 2000 per head. Contrary to the Sagarmatha National Park Entry Permit, the Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Municipality Entry Permit cannot be secured from the Nepal Tourism Board office.

However, trekkers must buy it either in Lukla or Monjo, which is the starting point of the trek for most trekkers. Every traveler who will be trekking in the Khumbu region must have this permit because it grants one the right to access the trails and villages toward the EBC.

Those who opt for the time-tested route from Jiri to Lukla will need to obtain a Gaurishankar Conservation Area Entry Permit. This permit costs NRs. Two thousand per head is not mandatory unless you trek in the Gaurishankar Conservation Area. The permit is available from the Nepal Tourism Board office in Kathmandu. This route provides more conventional trekking, encountering the woods, fields, and villages before merging with the standard route to the EBC.

To get these permits, you can visit the Nepal Tourism Board in Bhrikutimandap ,Kathmandu. You can also get a Sagarmatha National Park and Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Municipality Entry Permit from Monjo Checkpost.

What Documents Are Needed For Permits?

You must bring the following documents to obtain permits for the EBC Trek with Gokyo Lake and Heli Return to Kathmandu:

Meals During The Trek

We make sure that travelers get to have their 12 breakfasts, 11 lunches, and 12 dinners on the way, plus a farewell dinner.

Enjoy tasty things like momos and little Nepali steamers with meat or vegetable filling, which is great to eat after a day of walking. The staple meal, Dal Bhat, which consists of boiled rice, lentil soup, and vegetables in season, is quite filling. Treat yourself to fresh yak milk products such as yak cheese and yak butter tea, which is more enjoyable than the usual treks.

How Experienced Should I Be For Gokyo Everest Base Camp and Heli Return Journey?

Gokyo Everest Base Camp Trek with Heli Return is a rather adventurous high-altitude trek requiring a great deal of physical fitness and mental preparedness from the trekkers. It doesn't necessarily require prior experience in Nepal treks, though it may be of great use while hiking.

If you're a newcomer to treks in Nepal, then we suggest trying out some of the shorter and less technical treks to get the experience. The Langtang Valley Trek or the Ghorepani Poonhill Trek will be ideal for acclimatizing the body to the terrain and altitude of the Himalayas.

Similarly,  trekkers should walk 6-8 hours on varied terrain daily, including steep inclines and rocky paths. Cardio fitness and strength training are quite essential before one begins the trek. A higher altitude experience above 4000m may help but not necessary.

A typical day on the Ebc Trek with Gokyo Lake and Heli Return

The day on EBC Trek with Gokyo Lake and Heli Return starts very early. You will wake up by 6:00 a.m. and pack up your stuff. By 7:00 a.m., have your breakfast, and at the usual time of 8:00 a.m., set out of the teahouses, going through different landscapes: rhododendron forests and rocky moraines all the way up to icy glaciers. The views of Everest, Lhotse, and other Himalayan giants slowly unfold in front of one's eyes as one climbs higher.

Following that will be the sight of stupas adorned with prayer flags, suspension bridges to negotiate, and high mountain passes to cross.

Lunch breaks allow one to rest and refuel; this happens quite frequently with a great view in the background. This afternoon trek continues until you reach your teahouse, generally by 4 p.m. or 6 P.M. Evenings are for relaxation, acclimatization, and catching up with fellow trekkers. Right after the warm dinner, our guide will brief you regarding the next day's journey. This routine will help you acclimate to a gradually higher altitude and possibly tough terrain.

Advantages of The Added Helicopter Return with Ebc and Gokyo Trek

Time-Saving

Helicopter return will save several hours of hiking time compared to the walk down. It will be helpful if you have limited time and want to sneak a peek at as much of Nepal as you can.

Less Stress on Your Body

The ride down in the chopper relieves one from the struggle and physical toll of the descent, saving your knees and, more importantly, energy. This particularly goes well with those who have weak joints and other forms of body weakness.

Unique Aerial Shot

This takes you right back to the astounding view of the Himalayan Landscapes containing Everest and other peaks, a contrast in surroundings that you believe is so different from the terrain you have trekked.

Avoid Crowded Trails

Most descending trails can grow very busy during peak season. This heli-return helps avoid this traffic on one trail.

Safety

You may have to descend quickly in a helicopter if you're experiencing altitude sickness or other health problems.

Ultimate Opulence

The helicopter ride at the end of your trek is nothing short of thrilling, giving you an intensely opulent feel of adventure and comfort in the Himalayas.

Altitude Sickness | Is It A Problem?

During the EBC Trek with Gokyo Lake and then flying back to Kathmandu via a helicopter, trekkers are likely to spend most of the time above 3000 meters; therefore, they are most likely to get altitude sickness. This will cause height-related issues. Thus, one should take time to adapt to the new space.

The signs of acute mountain sickness are usually headache, nausea, dizziness, and fatigue. One has to listen to the signals that the body is sending to them and allow the body to adjust to the change in routine.

If any of the symptoms are felt, the patient should relax, eat appropriately, and, most importantly, increase the intake of water. It is wonderful to explore this beautiful area while trekking, and ensuring that you are healthy is a great reward.

Best Time To Do This Trek

Spring: March to May

The best time for the EBC trek, with Gokyo Lake and heli returning to Kathmandu, is the spring season from March to May, when the weather is stable and the temperatures are moderate, ranging from 10°C to –10°C.

The Everest area is still filled with blooming rhododendrons and other alpine flowers, which makes the area colorful. The weather is good, providing beautiful scenery of snowy mountains and calm water bodies. Also, the trekkers make the tour more colorful with festivals such as Holi, Nepali New Year, and so on.

Autumn: September to November

The second favorable season for the EBC trek with Gokyo Lake and a Heli return to Kathmandu is autumn, which ranges from September to November. The climate is chilly and dry, and the best time to trek during the day is when temperatures range from 15°C to 5°C. Most days are bright and sunny, and visibility is crystal clear. Thus, the possibility of viewing Mount Everest clearly with the Himalayas is very much possible.

Autumn covers many of the major Nepalese festivals, like Dashain and Tihar, where foreigners in Nepal can also be part of the celebration among the locals. This is one of the favorite seasons for trekkers for the obvious reason that the weather is perfect, the landscapes are breathtaking, and there are quite many cultural events.

Off-Season Trek | Is It A Good Idea?

Going for the EBC Trek with Gokyo Lake and Heli Return to Kathmandu during off-seasons like Monsoon and Winter can be done. However, it is not recommended because of the harsh weather conditions. Here is why:

Monsoon Season (June to September)

The summer period for the Everest region falls within the June to September period, during which high humidity pervades with rainfall. This wet weather period is characterized by regular rainfall, whereby thunderstorms prevail. Temperatures remain moderate throughout the period: the average temperature during the day is 15°C/59°F while during the night at 0°C/32°F. Trails may get so slippery that the chances of getting involved in an accident are high.

Moreover, clouds and fog hinder the clear visibility of mountains, and this, in a way, reduces the whole experience of trekking. Hence, it is advisable not to go trekking during monsoons because it is dangerous, and one cannot see much.

Winter Season (December to February)

From December to February, it is the coldest and snowiest time of the year in the Everest region. Temperatures are comparatively higher during the day and reach up to an average of -10°C, whereas in the night it gets very cold with a fall of as low as -20°C.

Long and cold winters affect the trails, creating icy paths, and this, in turn, increases the risks that hikers are bound to encounter. Some of the teahouses and lodges that are en route may be closed due to the cold, which will limit the number of places available to sleep. The extreme weather also impacts the helicopters, making the concept of Heli returns rather unreliable. Hence, the idea of trekking during the winter season is discouraged due to harsh conditions of freezing and unfavorable conditions in terms of transport.

Communication and Internet

During the Everest Base Camp trek with Gokyo Lake and Helicopter's return to Kathmandu, communication and internet facilities were not very available. Normally, remote areas have poor connectivity; therefore, by carrying a satellite phone, you are assured of constant communication.

The NCell and NTC SIM cards can be used on a daily basis to purchase data and voice calls on the internet. However, some areas of Everest are covered by Everest Link, which can offer a fast and stable connection to the Internet.

Lukla Flight Information

Flights to Lukla are essential for this trek since they provide a fast way of getting to the region from Kathmandu. Flights are available from Tribhuvan International Airport, and they are on a comparatively frequent basis, so it is not a problem to get to the heart of the Himalayas. The trip lasts about 45 minutes and gives a wonderful opportunity to enjoy the views of the sharp rocks and high mountains.

The cost of tickets to these flights usually falls between NPR 23,500 and NPR 26,000 per head. It is advisable to book in advance to get a place on one of these popular flights because they are crucial for trekkers to reach the starting point of the trek to the EBC.
