Pikey Peak Trek lies among the less traveled trails in the Solu-Khumbu region of Nepal and offers a unique experience to trekkers and adventurers. The peak, at an elevation of 4,068 meters, provides breathtaking views of the Himalayan range, including Mount Everest, and a chance to see the local community and their way of life close up, which is very interesting. The Pikey Peak trek itinerary boasts a fantastic mix of nature and culture, so you will never forget such an adventure.

The fact that Pikey Peak Trek is less crowded than other popular trekking places makes it one of the best things about Pikey Peak Trekking. This is given by the fact that people can have their quiet and serene moment without the interference of other people. Also, the trek presents myriad options of adventure and explorations, with the availability of camping under the stars, tasting local food, and socializing with the friendly locals. Also, immersion into different ethnic communities, such as Sherpa, Chhetri, Tamang, and Gurung takes Pikey Peak Trek to the next level.

In addition, the traditional local foods will also keep your head going to this destination. Along the way, trekkers will be welcomed by rare plants and animals inside the Sagarmatha National Park. The Likhupikey Rural Municipality is in Ward No. 1 of Solukhumbu District Municipality. Ward No. 8 of Solu Dudh Kunda Rural Municipality has a high reputation due to its outstanding natural and biological diversity. Also, this area serves as the best platform to watch the mighty Mt. Everest while going on a short trek.

From Pikey Peak, one can view a stunning panoramic of mountains, including Dhaulagiri, Everest, Makalu, Kanchenjunga, AmaDablam, Lhotse, Numbur, Gaurisankhar, and Langtang to the distant west. In addition, the sunrise and sunset views provided by Pikey Peak are simply breathtaking. It has densely wooded forests with Sunpati, Pine, and Rhododendron and diverse bird and animal life, including Lophophorus, Crimson Horned Pheasant, tiger, wild bear, Panda, and Ghoral. In addition, you may meet the Chauri Ghai, Nak, and yak freely grazing in this area.

The wonderful mountain views and the pleasant trail ensure that trekking to Pikey Peak is a very unique experience. The most enjoyable thing about this trek is that you do not have to get on the frightful Lukla to Kathmandu flight to start this trek. From Kathmandu, a brief 7-8 hours drive  by Jeep will take you to Dhap (2850m.|9348ft.), the starting point of the Pikey Peak trek. The ascent takes you through the isolated mountain valleys and deep forests of rhododendron and pine.

You are exploring the Himalayas trekking without exhausting your body. In fact, most trekkers do not recognize the glory of the Peak Peak trek, which results in a solitary or less busy trail, unlike the widely known EBC trail and the ABC trail. For a long time, the trailhead access was not usable. So, while other climbing paths in the Everest area got busier, Peak Peak was still quiet. And currently, the construction of a new road from Kathmandu to Solu highway makes the Pikey Peak trekking route accessible.

How Are the Views During The Pikey Peak Trek?

The Pikey Peak Trek turns out to be an excellent feast for your eye since the impressions of the Himalayan giant's mountain chains and the several views along the way truly give you a mesmerizing experience. Generally, the path is not demanding, but the main reward is the splendid vistas that follow you through the journey.

The most memorable is seeing some 8000er peaks, including Everest, Lhotse, Kanchenjunga, and Makalu, up close. The most attractive feature of the vantage point is its exclusive lookout. It is not so far to see all forms of power and glory as it is not so close to us that we cannot see all of them so gigantic. Besides these wide and colorful mountains, including Thamserku, Nuptse, Pumori, and Kangtega, the landscape is more expansive and beautiful.

The vantage point offers the ideal outlook – not too far to adequately capture these symbols of might and majesty, but not too close to where one cannot fully appreciate their towering stature. Besides, it is possible to see some other very big mountains, such as Thamserku, Nuptse, Pumori, and Kangtega, and the mountain scenery will become more attractive.

Trip PlanExpand all

On arrival at Kathmandu airport, you will be greeted by one of the representatives from Himalayan Partner Treks, who will take you to one of the best hotels around Thamel. You will either doze off at your hotel or continue roaming the streets of Thamel to stock up on the stuff you may still lack in your shopping. After that, you are invited to visit our office, where you can explore further the Pikey Peak trek Itinerary.

Have a fulfilling breakfast at the hotel to begin your journey from Kathmandu with energy. Today, you start your Pikey Peak trek, which involves traveling by road to Dhap Bazaar, the first step. As you travel with the Sunkoshi River, you experience a dramatic change in scenery. In Nepal, green forests, waterfalls, and terraced rice paddies reflect a beautiful painting of rural life. Let your eyes look for authentic and attractive small towns and see the whole life of the locals. You will set foot on Dhap Bazaar, a small village at 2850 meters above sea level. After getting there, go to a teahouse, which is your accommodation for the night and offers a nice stay. Once you get settled, take some time to look around the town market, feel the fresh mountain breeze, and discover the town´s unique atmosphere.

After breakfast, our journey to Pikey Peak will proceed. When you exit Dhap, be alert for the Number Himalayan range in front. The tops of the beautiful snow-crowned mountains will shimmer in the distance. Generally, we will be close to the forest scenery, which consists of traditional villages. From Sigane, the first part of the trip will be smooth to cross due to the new road, which makes the hike easier. The road then becomes a typical Himalayan mountain road that winds through an unnatural space. Finally, you come to a village with a magnificent view of the mountain's base. Here, you will enjoy awesome views of the Everest and Numbur Himal mountains, taking your breath away. This cozy village will be yours for the night, where you will sleep comfortably to enjoy the next day's adventure.

Right after breakfast, while trekking on the Pikey Peak Trekking Trail, there is a grassy ridge that one ascends to at Bhulbhule. You will also be rewarded with the scenic majesties of the Everest Range. The path splits just before Bhulbhule, and you will go right to Pikey Peak. A long mani stone wall and some ancient yak houses are coming. The trail continues through a beautifully wooded track along the slope contour down Taklung Danda. Along the flat road, there may be plenty of rhododendron trees (if you are trekking in the spring, you can see them blooming). It takes around two hours to reach Pikey Peak base camp after you have left the jungle. As you reach the base camp, rest in the tea houses or tented camps and explore the area.

The 5th day will be the thrilling ascend towards mind-boggling Pikey Peak to witness an awesome sunrise and then a soothing downhill trek to Lamjura Danda. The day starts with breakfast early in the morning to watch the beautiful sunrise from Pikey Peak. The trail now continues to climb, showing an outstanding Thamserku view. Eventually, you will stand on the top of the world and gaze at Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Annapurna, Manaslu, Kanchenjunga, and Dhaulagiri – the six greatest 8000-meter mountains. After that marvelous scene, return to Jase Bhanjyang for an overnight stay.

After breakfast, you will start the day by going down the ridge. On the way, you will pass through the meadow after the woodland. Then, you will get to Taktor to have your lunch. The trek will now move on a wide gravel road to Junbesi. There is a chance that you might visit the Buddhist Monastery before reaching Junbesi. At Junbesi, tea houses are beautifully decorated, and there is a Buddhist stupa. The Sherpa, Magar, and Tamang people inhabit this village. Upon arrival at Junbesi, a mountain sanctuary, you are welcomed by the rivers, lively monasteries, and snow-capped hills. By the end of the trekking days, your options for tea houses will be broader, and it would be great to relax and rest in this place.

Although you may be lured by the breathtaking vistas of Junbesi and doubt that a day is enough to enjoy the whole day, do consider the short trip to Thupten Choling Monastery. You can go for a short hike around the Monastery or any other Everest view point for exploration. Also called the famous and biggest monastery in Nepal, this monastery remains one of the most prominent monasteries in the valley, which predominantly houses female monks. Tourists can visit the kitchen and also have a better view of the interior of the building. The monks are nice, kind, and friendly, and this is the atmosphere that speaks for itself.

Another option is to go for a 2—to 3-hour hike from the forest until you reach an extremely high-rise ridgeline. The valley floor is a long way down if you look down, but if you look forward, you will be glad of the most beautiful views of Ama Dablam and Everest. This trail offers a great opportunity for long walks, and the view is like a dream come true. After your short hikes, return to Junbesi for an overnight stay.

Following a delicious breakfast, onward, you will head through the Pikey Peak Trekking Trail via Junbesi Khola Suspension Bridge until you reach the much-awaited suspension bridge that is 90 meters long. Eventually, you end up in Beni Ghat after crossing the bridge over the river. On your way to Phaplu, you won’t become monotonous. You will see many images that are worth seeing as pictures. The route is fascinating and appealing. At Phaplu, you will get to know the Sherpa way of life while a local function nearby is held, and you’ll be served traditional food and drink.

After breakfast today, you will drive to Kathmandu as a group by Jeep from Phaplu. We will leave early this morning from Phaplu. After approximately 8 to 9 hours of driving, we will finally arrive in Kathmandu valley. Upon arriving in Kathmandu, you will be taken to the hotel after a few hours of driving. Hence, the rest of the day is yours to just chill out and roam around. When you arrive in Kathmandu, you can stay at your hotel or visit the Thamel nightlife.

Note: Phaplu is a small airport and regular flights are operated there. Per your request, we will organize a flight from Phaplu to Kathmandu.

One of the staff members from Himalayan Partner Treks will pick you up from your hotel and drive you to the airport to catch your flight. You will be driven to the airport 3 hours before as per the Itinerary. If you are interested, the program can be extended by taking another one in Nepal, or you can choose to move somewhere else, keeping the trip to Nepal in mind.

Tips for Budget-friendly Trek

Traveling in the off-season

Visiting the trekking region off-season is an excellent way to save money and enjoy winter trekking. Prices for accommodation, food, water, and other necessities drop during this time, making your budget requirements smaller. You may be lucky to easily secure your accommodation and other services as fewer tourists are there. However, you must be ready for extreme weather situations like heavy rainfall during the monsoon, snowfall, and high winds during the winter season.

Negotiating Prices

It is possible to secure reasonable prices for the Pikey Peak Trek from the trekking companies you are working with. These agencies help you communicate your interests and preferences and provide tips to streamline your budget.

Negotiating the guides' and porters’ rates is also possible. Follow up with one-on-one conversations, share your expectations, and propose a reasonable payment. On the other hand, it is imperative to remember that they, too, have bills to pay, and they should be paid for their services.

Renting Gears

Buying hiking accessories can be expensive, especially if you are a rare hiker who cannot afford them. Hence, it is better to rent the trekking gear and equipment than buy them. Thamel, Kathmandu has many stores and shops that rent out essential equipment at cheaper prices. The decision to rent, in the end, will allow you to put more money aside for the Pikey Peak Trek packing list.
