Pikey Peak Trek, alternatively known as the lower Everest trek is one of the recently opened treks in the Khumbu region. Named after the Pikey hill (4,065m) - the tallest hill in the Solukhumbu region, the view from top provides with one of the best of the eastern Himalayas.
As we take on this journey to the Khumbu region we will get to witness the view of the mystic peaks including the Mt. Everest (8,848m), Mt. Kanchenjunga(8,586m), Mt. Manaslu (8,163m), Mt. Dhaulagiri I (8.167m) and many others. The trails take us through the dusty and off beaten road as well as through the thick fir and Rhododendron forests. As we walk alongside the tranquil rivers, the trek becomes more and more exciting and a naturally blessed one. The diverse geographic location and landscape are one of the major highlights of this trek.
Throughout this trek, we will stop at various local villages and enjoy their unique culture. Since Buddhist culture is pretty prevalent in the region you can expect a lot of mani walls, chortens, monasteries and prayer flags which adds to the beauty of this trek.
Pikey peak Trek is a moderate trek and perfect one for the beginners. Good stamina and physical fitness are required to take on this trek. Spring and Autumn is the best place to take on this trek as the weather is perfect for viewing the mountains and enjoying the landscape.
Your epic journey to the lower Everest will begin after your arrival in Kathmandu. Our representative will pick you up at the Tribhuvan International Airport. Rest your luggage and we will be briefing session on the trek. Get your queries answered and we hit the town- stroll around the bustling street and enjoy the nightlife at Thamel. No meals included.
Kathmandu is the cultural hub of Kathmandu with numerous sites of historical and religious importance. Today, we look at some of them. This includes the holy temple of Pashupatinath, Swoyambhunath, and Bouddhanath. We will also take a look at Kathmandu Durbar square. All of these are enlisted in the world heritage and are tourist destinations. Reach your hotel and prepare for the trek.
We drive to Dhapbazaar from Kathmandu. The road trip will be an exhilarating one with the view fo the SunKoshi, Tama Koshi river from the window. We will pass Okladhunga through the winding roads. The road goes uphill from Ghurmi through the Rhododendron forests and finally, we reach Dhap Bazaar. 7 hours of drive. BLD included.
The trail is mostly dusty until we reach Siganey. From there we move to Jhapre with the gorgeous view of the mountains in the Khumbu region including Mt. Everest and Number Himal. Since the trek is cut short we can enjoy the Stupas and viewpoint in the area admiring the greenery in the area. 4 hours of trek. BLD included.
Initially, we walk through the dusty road. Then we walk through the silent and beautiful Rhododendron forest and reach the village of Bhulbhule. It’s an uphill ascend to Lhamhe and through the forest, we will reach pasture land. From there, its steep climb to Pikey Peak Base Camp. We will admire the view of the majestic Pikey peak and the yellow and green landscape. 7 hours of walk. BLD included.
We start of early before the sunrise and climb uphill through the hillside and steep climbs to Pikey Peak (4,065m). The stunning view of the eastern Himalayas is something to remember. Mt. Everest, Mt. Kanchenjunga, Mt. Manaslu, Mt. Dhaulagiri as well as several other mountains shine in their full glory. Tracing our steps back we head back to the base camp. After our lunch, we descend through the thick Rhododendron and fir forest till Taktor. The trail becomes much more stable and easy till Junbesi. There are few monasteries and chortens in the area that we can visit. 7 hours of walk. BLD Included.
Instead of heading back we visit the famous 19th-century ChholinGompa as we trek alongside the Junbesi river. The uphill climbs are not so hard and rather pleasant at that. The view accompanies us throughout the way. Return to the village and we have time to visit some view spots and interact with the friendly villagers. 3 hours of walk. BLD included.
Following the Junbesi river, we walk through the rocky trail. On the way, we cross the suspension bridge over the river and reach Benighat. From there we walk through the dusty and uneven lands. it’s a short uphill walk to Phaplu with the scenic view of the green hills and the eastern Mountains behind at the horizon. 5 hours of walk. There’s a domestic flight that we catch and return to Kathmandu. Reaching back the hotel, we rest our luggage and take a nice shower. Rest of the day you have to yourself. There are a lot of places that you missed out on your second day like the Bhaktapur Durbar square, Godawari that you can visit. Enjoy the last day in the country by treating yourself with some delicious Nepali cuisine. You can also opt for some souvenir shopping. 40 minutes of flight. Breakfast included.
Your journey to the epic Khumbu region has ended. Our representative will drop you off at the Tribhuvan International Airport from where you will go homeward bound.
