Lobuche East Climbing with Gokyo and Trek is all for those needing the most challenging Everest experience. This complete tour and trekking package gives you the best opportunity to climb Lobuche Peak and go sightseeing at two of the best sites in the Everest region. There are two sightseeing tours: Gokyo Valley and Everest Base Camp. You will also be able to climb the more exciting Gokyo Ri and Kala Patthar.

Lobuche is one of the major trekking peaks in the Everest and consists of two distinct peaks: the Lobuche East at 6119m and Lobuche West at 6145m. Thus, in our opinion, the Lobuche East Climbing with EBC and Gokyo trek route is highly recommended. It will help with the acclimatization before the Lobuche ascends.

If you so desire, all these treks can be made in a single attempt; this will take approximately forty to fifty days. However, if time and cost become a problem, this short itinerary is preferable for traveling. This 19-day itinerary is planned to have the same format as the two other trekkings described above but encompasses a majority of EBC, Trek to Gokyo, and climbing Lobuche peak. Hence, by combining the two activities, you will save your precious time and money to complete this trek in 19 days only with proper acclimatization.

This trip starts with a dramatic flight from Kathmandu to Lukla. Afterward, you trek from Phakding to Namche Bazar, crossing different rhododendron forests, suspension bridges, etc. A trek from Namche Bazaar leads one away from the usual base of Everest Base Camp and heads towards the enchanting Gokyo Valley through places like Phortse Thanga, Machhermo, Phakding, and Namche Bazaar. It allows trekkers to view the Ngozumpa glacier and the Gokyo lakes, which are more bluish-turquoise like those found at the base of Gokyo Ri.

The trail from Gokyo becomes tough, and trekkers are greeted by the Cho La Pass, which is quite high and takes mental and physical strength to cross. Over this pass is the most exciting part of the trek, where you get a good view of Mt Cholatse and Ama Dablam, among others. Descending the pass, the trail goes to Lobuche and to Gorak Shep from Thaknak Dzongla, where the trekkers may opt for the side trip to the viewpoint of the Everest Base Camp and Kala Patthar. Therefore, The last schedule is to ascend to Lobuche High Camp, where the actual climbing of the Lobuche peak begins. Lobuche Peak has an elevation of 6,119 meters (20,075 ft) and offers the perfect level of challenge to the climbers while offering them splendid views of Everest, Lhotse & Nuptse.

Lobuche East Peak is categorized as a trekking peak in the Khumbu area and is situated along the Everest region base trek. Lobuche East stands at 6,119m ASL and will be the best for these climbers to start with before they practice in the technical mountains in the Himalayas. Lobuche East Peak climbing does not involve any technique like any other mountain climbing. With good health, proper orientation on the mountain, and a group, Lobuche East Peak can be conquered. For those climbers who started climbing in the Great Himalayas, it is necessary to note that Lobuche East Peak is comparatively easy to approach.

Moreover, Lobuche East is also a well-known practice peak for climbers who decide to get prepared for eight-thousanders. To this, we have added more information about the Lobuche Peak Climbing under the features, route, detailed itinerary, challenge rating, best season, and FAQ. Please read these to prepare for the exciting Nepal expedition with us.

Why Lobuche Peak Climbing via Gokyo is Suitable for Both Trekkers and Mountaineers?

Lobuche Peak climbing Gokyo for 19 days is one of the preferable packages to enjoy the Himalayas with a professional guide. Thus, there is adequate time for the body to adapt, lower its exposure to altitude sickness, and adapt to the altitude. Instead of undertaking separate treks, this 19-day journey combines three iconic destinations: Gokyo, EBC, and Lobuche Peak climbing. Each of these attractions gives an opportunity to travel through the Everest area, a somewhat different terrain, and see the cultural essence in a single go, thereby saving money and time.

Moreover, you will be accompanied by professional trekking guides all through the trek, and when you ascend to the base camp, there will be a mountain guide all to yourself. This means they will provide a better experience for the tourists apart from enhancing their safety when climbing the tough Lobuche Peak. If you are short of time but desire to get to a high altitude and have a good opportunity to enjoy the view of the Gokyo Valley and the great lakes, then the Lobuche Peak Climbing via Gokyo - 19 Days trek is perfect for you.

Trip PlanExpand all

Our representatives from Himalayan Partner Treks await your arrival at the Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu. They will help you in transferring to the hotel. The pre-trek meeting will be held at the company office in the evening. This important briefing will let you consider the peculiarities of the trek and guarantee that you will have all the necessary trekking gear for the trip. Your trekking leader will also brief you about the meeting time for the following day via email or WhatsApp in Kathmandu. It helps you be ready for the experience that awaits you in advance.

The adventure begins with a 30-minute flight from Kathmandu to Lukla's Tenzing-Hillary Airport. It is advised to arrive at least an hour early. Even though it only takes 50 minutes, this flight gives a great view of the Himalayan mountains sitting right at the plane's windows. The Lukla airstrip at 2,800m is well renowned, and as soon as the travelers arrive there, sherpa people welcome them, and the trekking starts. When trekking from Lukla to Phakding, the first stop for every trekker, it takes approximately 3- 4 hours to go through forests to reach the village. The trail follows the noisy Dudh Koshi River through mani walls, rhododendron forests, high suspension bridges, and several villages. There are some inclines and declines but not very steep, and thus prepare the rider for the conditions accordingly. After arriving at Phakding, you can take a walk in the village or around the nearby territories before returning to the teahouse for the night.

Today, you will walk between 6 and 7 hours to reach one of the most famous places in Khumbu, Namche Bazaar. You will traverse several suspension bridges over the River Dudh Koshi on the second day from Phakding. When you get to Monju, be ready to show off your permits – this indicates you are now within Sagarmatha National Park.

After slowly descending to the end of a high ridge, a trail begins steeply up the hill, passing through several thickets of pine and rhododendrons. A traveller coming down from Namche Bazaar at 3,440m can see the top of Mount Everest through the trees for the first time.

On your journey, try not to strain yourself, or you may feel the effects of altitude. Before moving forward to Lobuche and Gokyo in the coming days, start getting used to the environment.

This day is a rest day that is spent at Namche Bazaar, the lively Sherpa market of the Khumbu region. There is no need to rush as you start acclimating to the higher altitude above sea level. The following day, one can take an easy ride and take a short trek to the legendary Everest View Hotel to capture the close-up views of Everest, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, etc. There are two Sherpa villages, Khumjung and Khunde, and the oldest monastery is there. You can trek here during the day and return at night. Moreover, spend your evening leisure time exploring Namche's interesting markets and restaurants, having dinner, and spending the night in your lodge.

Today, we will trek for 5-6 hours to further the Khumbu region after getting accustomed to the altitude in Namche. It starts with a steep rise from Namche Valley, following the rhododendron forests up to Sanasa and Mong La, passing at 3,975 meters. From Mong La, one has to move downwards for nearly 30 minutes to reach Phortse Thanga, which is situated at a height of 3,680m.

As you gain altitude, the vegetation becomes juniper, with large conifers and yak kharka meadows. The area is most beautiful in spring when the rhododendrons are in bloom. One highlight is exploring the village of Khumjung and visiting Mohang, the birthplace of the reincarnated Rongbuk lama. It will also be possible to see the Khumbila and Tawache mountains during the day on the trek. Phortse Thanga is a small Sherpa village where you will be accommodated in one of the locally available teahouses.

Today, you ascend rather sharply from Phortse Thanga through the most beautiful pine and rhododendron forest. Lunch and a brief rest can be made in the village of Dole. From Dole, one has to climb an ascending path to reach Machhermo. When you make this hike in the spring, the whole trail is covered with rhododendron flowers. This trail traverses steep cliffs, which offer vantage points from which to view the vast valley below. You will also find waterfalls and small streams; the mountains look great. After a steep incline, you arrive at another small alpine village called Luza. Macchermo is near Luza, but it will take only several minutes to get to the second village. Once you get to Machhermo, you go to a teahouse, and then you can take a bit of a break.

As per the schedule of Day 7, after having breakfast in the morning, one has to hike from Machhermo to Gokyo (4750m/15584ft), trekking beside the Ngozumpa Glacier. Along the way, you can admire charming views of the Mt. Mountains of Nepal: Cho Yo and Gyachung Kang. After walking by a lake, you will get to Gokyo Village, where your night stop is. It starts with one hour of trekking to Phanga, where an area is dedicated for landslide victims. Longpongo Lake (4,690m) and then Moraine from Ngozumpa Glacier are located when crossing the iron bridge. Further down the line, one can witness Gokyo lakes in series with water of different colours against the backdrop of the Himalayas. Gokyo village is a famous Everest region landmark surrounded by glaciers and beautiful lakes where trekkers live in teahouses.

Today, we have an acclimatization day scheduled for us. Next, we plan for a trek to Gokyo Ri. Indeed, one should not miss a chance to visit the famous Himalayan Range, including mountains such as Mount Everest, Lhotse and others. We will then head to Gokyo Valley after an amazing day at Gokyo Ri. Following this, we continue our trek from Gokyo village, and the next destination to visit for this trekking day is Thangnak. While on the trip, we will be crossing Ngozumpa Glacier. The path itself has its up and down parts but is not much longer and does not require climbing any steep incline. The Thangnak village is in a quiet and scenic place near Ngozumpa Glacier and is quite suitable to enable trekkers to get to Cho-La High Pass, which has an elevation of 5,330m.

After breakfast at Thangnak, we will trek through the rocky hills and glacial moraines to reach the Chola Pass early in the morning. After three or four hours of hiking, we will arrive at the top of Cho La Pass, where the clear reflection of Cho La Lake and Mt. Cholatse (6,440m) can be enjoyed. From here, we proceed down the trail; however, it gets slippery and icy as we go further. The scenes you can watch during this trek are very nice. Today, we will be trekking for about seven hours and arriving at Dzongla, our stop for the day. As we observe, it is quite a long journey.

From Dzongla, we will traverse the moraine and descend along Chola Lake. Next, we traverse along the Khumbu Glacier. On the way, there are some statues of the climbers who died in this area for mountaineering. Today’s hike to Lobuche should be fun unlike yesterday and before getting to Lobuche, we will come across Imja Khola. And as expected, we will arrive at our destination for the day – Lobuche – after four hours of trekking. We have returned to the standard Everest Base Camp trekking route by arriving at Lobuche. From Lobcuhe, we will move closer to the base of Mount Everest, the highest point on planet Earth, with joy in our hearts. We will reach Gorak Shep through the glacier trail, with some ups and downs, even on a rough path. Here, we will get an amazing view of Mount Pumori, Mount Nuptse and other mountains.

After the morning meal, we will leave our belongings and proceed to the Everest Base Camp. When you are on the base of Mount Everest, you would feel like you have achieved something – the result of hard work. So, reaching EBC involves a lot of trekking and effort; hence, while trekking towards EBC, one starts to get a better view of Everest. The view from EBC is superb, and you will be able to see the Khumbu Glacier. We recommend you take as many photos as you want because you will have them for the rest of your life. After visiting various places in EBC, we will go to Gorak Shep and stay overnight here.

After breakfast in Gorak Shep, we will start our trek early in the morning and then go to Kala Patthar to view the Everest mountain. The things you are going to see are going to be phenomenal, and they are not going to look like anything you’ve ever seen before. 2-3 hours will be spent on climbing up. When we get there, we will see towering mountains with snow-capped peaks, including Mount Everest. After having such a view, we have to return to Lobuche. Enroute, nice views are expected, especially when crossing over rocky grounds to reach Lobuche.

Day 13 involves 3 to 4 hours of trek to Lobuche High Camp, passing through a tricky trail of large rocks. We plan to be at the High Camp by the close of the day tomorrow. On that particular day, our climbing guide will be able to give us directions on how to climb the peaks since it would be necessary for the following day. However, the Lobuche High Camp gives an easily accessible view of big mountain names such as Ama Dablam, Cholatse, Thamserku, etc. This high-altitude camp is the last preparation phase before the final push to reach the crater's edge in the next couple of days.

Today, the only objective of climbing Lobuche Peak will be accomplished. Your breakfast will be ready quicker than before as you must start the climb early. Following steep and ice tracks, you will get to the southern ridge. At last, the ropes, the crampons, and the ice axes will play their part. Under the guidance of your guide, you will now move forward and up in the technicalities of Lobuche Peak when it is time to proceed to the final ascent. Upon reaching the top of the 45-degree steep ridge, you’ll be at Lobuche East’s high point. Climb success will make your heart jump with joy. Your celebration will become more lively with the wide panorama of the Everest region. From the summit of Lobuche Peak, the whole of the Everest region is visible, and this view alone will make you appreciate more that the trip is worth all the trouble. After a splendid time at the Lobuche summit, you will descend to the high camp of this peak. We will trek to Lobuche and then spend the night at the tea houses there.

In the morning, after having breakfast at Lobuche, we come down to Pheriche, and during the trek, we see the rhododendrons and juniper trees. Our trekking from Pheriche will continue to offer fantastic Himalayas views up to the Pangboche Village. Passing through pristine forests of rhododendrons and juniper shrubs, the trail reaches out to the village known as Pangboche, which sits at 3930 meters/12890 feet above sea level. We then tour the famous Pangboche Monastery and spend the night at a teahouse in the same village.

Today, we will wake up in Pheriche and continue the trek to Namche Bazaar. The trail moves through the forests where one can possibly see pheasants, musk deer, etc. The route also crosses several prayer flags and chortens. This will be the last view of the Himalayan giant Mount Everest. We will proceed with our trekking, and after a few hours, we will be in Namche Bazaar, our lodging for the night.

Today is your last day on the trekking trail. After breakfast, we will get down a rather steep path in the morning and cross the Hillary Suspension Bridge and many villages. Most of the trekking will be done in Dudh Koshi River Valley and its surrounding region. After reaching Lukla, we will rest in the hotel and then acclimatize to Lukla. It is most likely the last night you are in the Khumbu region. In this instance, you have emerged victorious over several challenges. It is a moment that warrants celebration.

You will be trekking out of the Everest region on this day. So, spend the day exploring Lukas surroundings. The EBC Trek with Lobuche Peak Climbing Itinerary comes to an end when you finish your delicious breakfast in Lukla and take an early flight from Lukla to Kathmandu. A take-off also provides one of the most spectacular sights, similar to the abovementioned landing. The day may be spent walking, idling, or amusing oneself.

A few hours before the flight departs, a pick up of a private tourist car is arranged to pick up from the hotel to the airport. You may also take more time choosing different trekking activities.

Essential Information

Lobuche Peak Climbing via Gokyo Days Best Time

If you’d ask the trekking professionals, they would respond to your question with seasonal options in spring and autumn. Therefore, these two seasons are best for trekking and mountain climbing in Nepal. Therefore, your attempt to climb Lobuche East is bound to be very successful in Autumn and Spring due to the favorable climate and temperature.

Autumn (September, October, and November)

Autumn is one of the best seasons in which people can see the beauty of Lobuche Peak before the onset of a strong winter. Furthermore, it has good weather since the mid to lower part of the Khumbu region has an average day temperature of 15-20 degrees Celsius, making it a good trekking region.

But mornings and nights are not quite as comfortable as mid-afternoon; it would be chilly. Lobuche Peak is situated in the higher reaches of Khumbu, where the climatic condition is nearly 0 to minus 11 degrees Celsius.

Since it's a Himalayan area, the temperature is always nearly freezing.

Besides, there are many other places of interest that one can explore in Lobuche East during the Autumn time. The Mani Rimdu is the biggest festival in the Khumbu region. It is held in November and lasts for three days at Tengboche Monastery.

Spring (March, April, and May)

The spring season between March and May will let you script a new chapter of Himalayan tales. It is the second most right time for climbing Lobuche East Peak.

April is the middle of Spring and the best time to climb Lobuche Peak. The mid-spring provides travelers with the best weather conditions: a helping climate, generally stable and cool in temperature throughout the year.

The average daily temperature in the lower and middle reaches of the Khumbu area is between 17 to 25 degrees. However, the average temperature at Lobuche Peak- the high area of Khumbu- is 10 to -15 degrees. Also, if you are planning your Lobuche East climbing at the end of May, you will surely have the opportunity to visit the Dumji festival in the Khumbu region.

Winter (December, January, and February)

Climbing up to the Lobuche East Peak is very difficult during the winter season. The weather is moderately cold during early December but does not snow; however, when January arrives, mid and higher regions experience snow. The temperature at the top of Lobuche East Peak or its premises varies between -20 to -4 degrees Celsius. The lower Khumbu will be slightly warmer, with temperatures expected to be between -5 and 12 degrees Celsius.

Summer or Monsoon(June, July, and August)

Lobuche East Climbing in Monsoon or summer, especially in the middle of June, July, and August, is always unpredictable. Sometimes, the sky is bluish and very transparent; at other moments, it is gray and contained by rain clouds. In the lower altitudinal range of the Khumbu, up to 4000m, the temperature fluctuates between 2-18 °C, whereas in the higher altitudes of the Khumbu area, the temperature swings between -2 to 10 °C. Monsson’s climate is relatively unpredictable, even with the changing temperature after a rainy season.

Lobuche Peak Climbing Via EBC and Gokyo Preparation

To get to the Lobuche East Peak summit, one does not necessarily have to be a mountaineer, but it is advisable to have a sound heart. It is not technically challenging; it only involves hiking at a higher elevation with a pack and knowing how to use crampons and an ice axe.

Before proceeding any further, our professional Sherpa guide will offer climbers a brief successful climbing morale boost to enable climbing and demonstrate how various climbing gear required are to be used appropriately. Yes, you need to train for this climb because such training would help you if you encounter such a scenario.

Before limb Lobuche East Peak, you should be involved in several aerobic exercises like jogging, running, cycling, swimming, and swimming, among others. Pre-trek preparation should also include some rehearsals, and this can be done by engaging in one-day treks that, on average, should last 5-6 hours before the intended trek.

Another type of gym exercise is regular aerobics, including strength training exercises. It is not mandatory that a person has to be a technical climber to mountaineering, but he has to be physically fit and healthy. It is relatively easier to get to the base camp of the Lobuche East, but the final steep climb is a little more complicated. Therefore, anyone who wants to climb this mountain must do so step by step.

Lobuche Peak Climbing via Gokyo and EBC Difficulty Level

Lobuche Peak is one of Nepal's trekking peaks, with some technicalities that are different from those of the rest. This expedition has technical courses in steep and high-altitude trekking and hard climbs. Lobuche Peak starts from Lukla, and here you go, trekking to the Lobuche Base Camp. You will require about 5- 6 hours daily for this trek portion. The hiking trails We are talking about are not only plains you walk through but inclined and difficult. Newbie trekkers may have problems during trekking days. It is in the higher reaches of the Khumbu region, so sometimes, trekkers might face issues related to acclimatization.

Once past the village of Lobuche, there is a steep, sometimes loose, rocky path up to the higher camps. Thus, some nights, until they return to the village, are supposed to be spent in the camp tent, and they must take whatever food the helper prepares. This may sound somewhat uncomfortable to people who may not have gone through the process of mountain climbing. This is because climbing a summit is not easy, as some people have mentioned. The last part is a few stations before the top, and it is steep with deep snow that makes it about 45°. This part is as long as 50m and can be more challenging than the other parts. This part of Lobuche Peak climbing becomes quite problematic for beginners, and they really have to prove their worth. In addition to the facts mentioned above, the Lobuche Peak has to be considered a reasonable trekking peak. Nonetheless, since embarkers must participate in mountaineering activities, they must possess some training, experience, and comprehension.

Travel Insurance Requirements for Lobuche Peak Climbing via Gokyo

The Lobuche Peak Climbing via Gokyo takes 19 days. Therefore, it involves some risk on the trip, and therefore, it is advisable for anyone undertaking this trip to have insurance. This is a physically strenuous tour taking climbers and trekkers up to 6119 meters through some of the most remote areas of the Himalayan range. Hence, one should make sure they have travel insurance in case of any mishap. The right travel insurance must cater for adequate reimbursement in case of medical difficulties, mishaps, AMS, or any type of health challenges that might happen on the trek. It should also contain the high costs that are incurred during the evacuation times, such as the helicopters, which at some point may be costly in such areas.

We recommend that you read through the policy and ensure it covers high-altitude trekking and mountaineering up to the maximum altitude of Lobuche peak climbing via Gokyo trek. For more information on how to make the right insurance decision, one should turn to experienced trekking agencies or insurance companies.

Accommodations on Lobuche Peak Climbing

We divide the accommodation into two sectors. The first part involves lodge accommodations while on the trek. Up to Lobuche village, you will be spending the night in one of the best lodges found in the villages on the way. What you are given is a twin-shared accommodation with an option to share a washroom. The facilities are basic.

The second one is camping accommodation during climbing at the base camps. All the tents are available from the company side, and in this regard, one doesn’t need to spend a single penny to get a tent. The equipment consists of sleeping tents, dining tents and washroom tents. Porters put up the tents. Similarly, we also took all the necessary things to spend our time at Lobuche base camp and high camp.

Meals Facility on Lobuche Peak Climbing

You will be provided with meals throughout the trip, and they are dependent on the menu at the lodge. The guests of the restaurant will be able to choose from many different meals. Most of the restaurants at present prepare and offer Nepali, Tibetan, Indian and continental foods. Some of the possible breakfasts include toast with eggs, soup, roti Tarkari, oats, sandwiches, and so on, as well as porridge with tea or coffee. For the heavy food items, yes, Dal Bhat is there, as well as Tibetan bread, Thenduk, Thukpa, pasta, noodles, momo, and a few others. Camping is where a crew is supposed to prepare Food for the climbing party. On a climbing expedition, it is the crew's job to prepare Food for the climbing party. High camp always accompanies a well-trained cook; Food and water are usually available at the high camp. We supply the basics and ration each meal as far as for the day of the summit. They do taste nice and are nutritious and cover all the meals.

Altitude Sickness Considerations

One of the issues that one faces when traveling to high places is Altitude Sickness. During this trip, you will be at an altitude of more than 5000m above sea level. Thus, one can easily get altitude sickness. Another name for this is Acute Mountain Sickness. The pressure decreases with an increase in altitude, and therefore, there is a lack of enough oxygen at higher regions of the sky. Some of the common symptoms include headache, dizziness, and sleeplessness. If you notice any of these symptoms, you should inform the guide. They will guide you on the next step that you should take. Failure to take necessary medication on time may have many negative impacts on health.
